I've been out of the loop for the last week or so. Tuesday night my wife had a heart attack while driving (she kept conciousness, as our three year old son was in the car). Within six hours, I got a call from my sister in England to let me know my father had died.
I've been playing nursemaid, and Mr. Mom for the last week. My wife's doing a lot better. They still don't know why she had a heart attack. No clogged arteries, no high blood pressure, no high cholesterol. Consequently, none of the usual drugs are going to be helpful. They do expect her to recover in two weeks to two months.
Obviously I couldn't go back to England for my father. My sisters asked me to write something to be read out at the funeral. That's the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
Anyway, your thoughts and prayers (if you are so inclined) would be welcome.

Mar 14, 2006 12:35 pm Hi,Im sorry for your loss,it must be even more stressful with your wifes condition on top of it all.I know a girl that had a mystery heart attack also quite fit,it was caused by a spasm of a main artery near the heart. After a lot of tests she is ok,but on tablets.Hope things improve.

Mar 14, 2006 01:54 pm Thanks so much for your thoughts, prayers, and "mojo." It's all helping. So glad the HRC community is so f'ing wonderful.
Hujambo: That's the story. Spasm of the main artery, and one chamber is now not beating right. Either a blood clot (didn't show on tests), or it was a huge adrenaline rush (temper.....) that caused the spasm. The doctors are baffled, and reading a lot of books.
Not burned out yet. I'm still in the "survival" mode. Running on adrenaline, and still a bit numb. I'm kinda enjoying the ride, as I know the emotions will be coming soon. Not letting myself stand still, as I know that will help the stress to catch up.
Mar 14, 2006 01:59 pm Might be a whole lot of emotion and musical inspiration in this situation...keep a notebook and pencil handy...it'd be a good way and release it when it comes at you.
...and may the force be with you.
Mar 14, 2006 02:31 pm really sorry to hear about yor loss.stay strong and get though this and im sure you have a beautiful son you love more than anything .
Mar 14, 2006 02:40 pm Hi,I dont know if its the same condition but its very similar. The girl I know had this and some more spasm's about a year ago and was in hospital for a few days hooked up to an electro cardiogram thingy to find out what was going on.A year later she's still ok and just been for a thorough check up.She still take's a broad spectrum of tablets and somthing in there is working.I think they are trying to cover many possable causes because they are not sure what the real reason for the spasms is.They did say that if it got worse the next thing would be an operation that stretches the artery. This is not too drastic as it is done with one of those gadgets that goes through the artery, expands and comes out again.Im no expert but I hope this helps. If I can find out more ,will let you know.Good luck.
Mar 14, 2006 06:52 pm im prayin, even though im not religious. i'm sorry to hear about all of this, and may you find the time and space to wrestle and heal.

Mar 15, 2006 04:09 pm Thanks again for all your kind words, everybody. Really, it means a whole lot to me.
Hujambo: I'll look that one up. My wife's also quite anaemic (apparently), so we're also looking into that as a contributing factor. I'll see what I can find on the syndrome you mentioned. I really appreciate the help.
Mar 15, 2006 09:35 pm Hang in there! Sounds like you got things in control... We got good thoughts and prayers goin' your way...
