If we all kicked off about every Jesus joke we too could be like them. They should lighten up and stop trying to live in a biblical past in the modern world. From what Ive read on it the Dane's won't offer an apoligy, now that does'nt help either.

But it was only the fault of the press, not the embassies or the counties in question. The Syrians really do need to lighten up a bit.

You dont see me setting my kids stuff on fire because he or his friends call me old or make jokes. :-)

Same differance in my eyes.

Pretty lame. I remember my aunt trying to tell me that muslims were peaceful and tolerant people back when the war started. they really aren't living up to what they claim to be... "if it walks like a duck..."

I think every action has to be well thought through when dealing with these people, cause if not they gain support and become even more extreme. We need the moderate ones on our side to convince the fanatics we dont want hassle but they will be worse off if they push us too far!

There are dangerous fanatics in all religions, you can't blame all Moslems for the actions of some.

There have been Christians who have murdered doctors for performing abortions. It would be ridiculous to think all Christians are guilty of the same.

A friend of mine who was in a remote part of Afghanistan said that what they we briefed on as "being Muslim" was not what they found when thy hit the ground. It's apparently closer to calling David Koresh "Christian"... The tribal culture is what is dominant.

You gotta admit though, that during a tense period already, it's bad form for journalistic enterprises to print insulting and derogatory press.

Tolerance would be better form here, as there's lots of tolerant muslims, who do not advocate terrorism. These peaceful people should not have their religous leader, or icon, besmirched by intolerant journalism.

I wouldn't condone protester's actions of violence, certainly, but also would not defend the press' position of free speech as a shield behind which to render inflammatory publications.

I would think a Newspaper company can find better ways to fight terrorism than to publish insulting cartoons. What kind of response did they think this would illicit? All muslim's would read this cartoon, and abandon Islam? Ha, don't think so.

Ya know, regardless of belief and such...to burn and pilage and kill over an f'in cartoon is just insane. If Christians today did this every time our Savior was mocked it would be constant mayhem...

That said, the guy that made the cartoon used terrible judgement...but then, so did the "artist" that made a "work of art" called "piss christ" that is a crucifix submerged in a bottle of urine...

actually there is now a cartoon contest in iran to try to get us to behave the same way.
www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/as...ests/index.html

...granted the last documented case I know of of Muslems desecrating a crusifix was during the crusades just before the battle of Jerusalem...later that day the crusaders killed practically everyone in the city... but I think we've calmed down a bit sence then.

I think that link was blocked ... it was an arabic legoman that was labaled "Mohammed" to illustrate that because nobody really knows what mohommed looked like anyone can be used to depict him... other poeple have stickman characters labled as mohommed too.

I was listening to my favorite right-wing talk radio station this morning and they, as everybody, are talking about this.

Apparantly it was perfectly fine to show their prophet Mohammed (sp?) in pics until Iotollah (again, sp?) took control in 1979. They had many examples of artwork from the region...so, once they lost any sort of freedom, they also lost the right to dipict their prophet.

Point being, this is a realitively new doctrine of theirs...

Though I haven't read much of the Koran, the issue seems very similar to the Christian "Iconoclastic Debate"

Ya know, I was thinkin about this the last couple days...and while I do think, on the whole, it's much like the L.A. riots years ago, just gives punks a reason to raise hell...

However, another part of me sees the culture clash...in the islamic world, as I understand it, media such as newspapers are controlled completely by the gov't, so anything in it is a gov't official stance. So, if they see that kind of mockery in a newspaper, they could take it as a gov't stance there, which, seen as that, would be highly insulting, and having no concept of "freedom of press", it could be an ugly situation, as this is.

To further debate that with myself, these people are not in the islamic world, they are local to where they are rioting, which means they have been a part of the free culture for a while and as such should have an understanding...

I dunno, I'm torn, but regardless of reason, it's upsetting.

--i would seriously doubt this. this seems like something you should double-check. i've just got a feeling that that's misinformation or spin. of a very HUGE sort. and now im wondering what show you heard it on. there has to be some deeper prohibition, in the koran itself.

Actually just a few minutes ago I heard a Muslim saying the same thing on a different show. Today the closest you get is a veiled face, hands and feet, but Iotollah outlawed depictions of it. And you can also find very old images and not too long ago some Muslims wore a depiction of Mohammed as a badge...

I am going to look into it more, but I certainly starting hearing basically the same thing quite often over the last couple days from a variety of sources.

I'm certainly not saying it's unquestionably correct, but certainly an interesting slant to the whole thing...

Besides, you seriously doubt anything that comes out of my mouth, so it's hardly a suprise...

actually there are a number of historical paintings of Mohommed but it's characterized as "Those Moslems wern't "real" Moslems... sort of like Midieval Knights being "Christians" :)

A simple Google search brings up LOTS of opinions...and whether or not they were real muslims or not is interesting, but, moot insofar as nobody started bombing and killing over them.

just found that the primary injunction is in the Hadith which if I remember right is not followed by the Shiites. and is infact one of the reasons for the split between Sunni and Shiite.

...so it's probably closer to the way some protestants don't consiter Cathloics christian.

Another thing people don't seem to take note of is the political powers that be in that area that have worked so hard to start the violence...I mean, really, these pictures were published in September weren't they? It took that long for the extremists to get people pissed enough to start rioting.

I guess that is just another example of the extremists in any culture or religion being the worst example of it.

The problem is that there was something like 12 cartoonists. So is the reward for all of them? Or do you get a portion of it if you get 1 or 2? It's ridiculous!
