Experiment in audio-induced paranoia...

Here Comes The Man, is something I did a while back, and always meant to post here, but never really got around to it . It was done when I was at an experimental point... alot of knob-turning going on throughout the work with some interesting results .

Please take part in the experiment by giving a listen... just for fun . : p

I sat alone in a dark room and listened. I was glad I wasn't too stoned.

It seems to occppy the shadow place. The in-between of insomnia and the screaming nightmare from which I never wake up.

Very patient writing. I like the feedback sound at 3.28 ish. All that guitar texture fits well. Sensitive mixing and great sounds.

Perfect if you want to spin out after a big night!

Outstanding !

The 'feedback' at 3:28ish, is actually the draw of a violin bow on the 'ol LP, heavily delayed, and effected . Another disguised instrument on it is the 'kick-drum' that's run through a ring modulator, and changed slightly between each of it's hits .

Not a problem . I'll send it along with the DBD, and AT Cds . I started working on ATs stuff last night... some of it is salvageable, but everytime the bass player stepped on his effect-box, the mix goes to hell . : /

Performance Art is what this is. you should be doing this in one of those freaky theatre's. With a liquid light show and all the trippy trimmings. Everything pulsating with the music.

I see a kind of paisley shaped amoeba squirting itself between 2 slinky protazoa's. Suddenly a flash of purple and orange hits me in the eyes. I'm frightened, goose bumps and a chill suddenly streak down my spine toward my feet. I... I... I'm paralysed, I... Cant... Move!

Suddenly the purple give way to a rush of scarlett, my head... its... spinning on my body... Now my hand is reaching for my head, but its not attached to me...

Its coming out of the wall...

I'm surounded by my own hands....

thousands of them...

all reaching for.....

my head???????

OH ya, that was pretty kool Hue. I'm gonna scare Tuna with that one. I'm re-burning his sleeping CD and popping that in at about 20 minutes and boosting the level up a bit so it sneaks up on him as he drifts off.

Performance Art, eh ? Alright . I was a little befuddled when I went to post it, and couldn't figure out what genre to place it in . I figured 'Folk' was the closest, as it is relative to environment . Glad y'a liked it ! Y'a got'ta let me know how it goes with the Tuna experiment... that sounds like it could be alot of fun .

I'm think I'm going to look into getting some amoeba, and protazoa for the studio . You know... just to enhance listening sessions .

I'll definately let ya know how it goes. But indeed, enjoyed it again this evening. I might have to make a ritual out of it. Close my eyes and drift off for a moment or three with it.

Hue, Lost Highway is very intense, the music really drives it that way. Angelo and Trent really went out of their way for making the music drive the film into a staight of panic.

This song is actually two years old, so perhaps it's time I take inventory of these 'trends'... kind'a find out where the hell I've been for the last two years ! Maybe even compile some of this stuff for an actual album of sorts, though I'd prolly have to aquire an extra day a week to pull that off .(Eight... like that one song... by those English guys.)

If I do I'm calling it "Don't Try This At Home !" heh

Or just Try This at Home might work as well, since it is home made. :-)

I've been hesitating plugging my old SparQ drive in for that same reason Hue. I am afraid I will find some of that old stuff and it will be wanting me to work on it again and breath new life into it. And right now I dont have that kind of time, and it will drive me nuts.

There is some stuff backed up on those old 1 gig carts that is maybe 10 years old or more.

Ya, and Loki, about that Ritual Theatre thing, you dont lke sacrifice anything do you?

[quote] Am I the only one who heard the ghost of Elliott Smith hanging around the edges of this?

I never heared of Elliott Smith... appearently he did something like this ? Haven't heared of System Shock 2, either . Statements like this make me wonder just how much music I'm missing that's out there... compells me to seek it out . Then again, I'm not sure by ending my appearent state of 'isolation/insulation' would help me produce more or less works like this one, or anything else for that matter . I find that, sometimes, the best inspiration is to place oneself in a desert, barren of inspiration . Like in the case of this piece, I listened to that single kick(1/24?) completely uneffected for hours and hours before the rest came pouring out . Thanks for the listen thermocaster, your insight is appreciated... gon'na check out those artists .

Loki, the sacrifices we make for our art(s) far exceeds that of the life of a dumb animal, so really if you care to embue your 'focus point' with such imagry go right ahead... save me the face !

Noize... bring it man, we're ready whenever you are . Old recordings are the best because of the archiological factor involved . Critique is almost irrelevant when it comes to the inspection of a moment in time that denotes the path of where one has arrived... if they're happy where they are . It's all the situations that ask "How the hell did I get here ?" that require the microscope .

Hue,

Just to let you know...Elliott Smith was a indie-rock semi-icon in the late 90's and early 00's. Wrote a lot of really depressed and isolated songs with some solid pop hooks. Something about the tone of the instruments reminded me of that. Sadly, he killed himself a couple of years ago.

System Shock 2 isn't an artist...it was actually a PC-based video game that came out in the late 90's. Very spooky sci-fi horror game, set on a "ghost ship" filled with mutants. Quality stuff...lots of atmosphere.

Hue, there is somewhere on cassette in this dump, a version of Hangmen by a band known as Mason Proffit. It is probably the ugliest recording I was ever a part of. An impromptue jam session in a concrete basement, 2 mics into a 4 track. And lots and lots of malted beverages. If I find it I may post it just for the pure laughableness of it all.

thermocaster, I couldn't find a place that'll let me sample his stuff, but from what I did find, he sounded like a hell of a guy, but had some pretty major drug issues . Prett sad stuff, man .

www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/03-10/22.shtml

Noize man, you can be truly inspiring at times ! Sharing your worst work with us like that... it's just beautiful . I will join you in this endevor to acknowledge that part of the audio-trip when the recording process itself was a rushed and secondary thing to the 'moment of the event' . Hmmmm... only the absolute worst recording would do though . heh Let's start a new thread for this one ! There may be some others who'd like to play this game . : p

Allrighty then. I will try and find that cassette tommorrow. And whomever gets there first can start the thread.

Does indeed sound like fun. Now I am on a mission to find the worst stuff I can. I suppose this would have to go in Talking Smack, since it probably will result in nothing but that.

The one I'm considering is also on cassette, and may very be one of the worst recordings/performances in existance .(with exception of those Yoko Oh-no recordings, you know the ones with Clapton on it.) Also involving malted beverages in large amounts, among other effects, this recording(if I can find it) is the documentaion of an actual band practice with the complete butchery of the Metallica song The Four Horsemen . No drummer, no lyrics... makes me crack up just thinking about it !

I will start the hunt tomorrow as well, and yeah this is deffinately Talkin Smack material . haha

I found it. Now to find a few minutes to search the tape for that tune. Its a 90 minute with a ton of hideous covers done by a bunch of loaded fool's. And yes sorry to say I was one of them.

Its an all out jam with a bunch of nuts who never played together before that night. Although we had all heard each other play so most could step right in. There are a couple of original's as well. As I get time I might toss a bunch up just for yucks.

I think this stuff is from somewhere around 80 to 82. Not really sure as most of that time was blur.

Hue, I'll start a new thread in Talking Smack then, unless you get there before me.

Ya, we can make it the best/worst thread. Although for now I am going for the worst as this cassette is really bad.

I had a little listen last night. Hangman wasnt as bad as I remember, but some of the other stuff is absolutely hideous. And that is being gentle.

And funny enough, while digging for that particular cassette I found several odd bits of stuff that were long lost ideas just put to tape and mixed down quickly and forgotten about. Even found some of my best on hold and musac stuff. I'll post it all eventually.

The fat one always watches us.

Thanks Tony... wierd is good .

Noise, I too found some other qualifiers while looking for 'the one' . Unfortunately, most of the weekend was consumed by me trying to be a plumber... read as: 'just replacing a faucet, but making the matter much worse by touching it myself, instead of calling someone who does this for a living.' What a mess . I may have water back on this comming weekend, but it will take a remodel of the sink area . Ugh... just as well .

Hue - least it was only a faucet. My latest attempt to be a plumber involved fixing a toilet that wouldn't flush. That was not pleasant. Water was squirting everywhere. I just duct taped stuff together and it stoped. Have no idea what did..

Ya, I've just done the kitchen faucet. The toilet down here, and am doing the shower faucet in 2 weeks. Not looking forward to the shower as it means shutting down the entire house since they didnt plumb in shut offs for the shower.

But ya, trying to get things done around here. Cleaning for Geoffs visit on Thursday, and picking away at the moving of things in here to make room for the bookcase. I did actually get the drum rack fixed as well as the large speakers stands modified and mounted. So no they dont thump so hard from the solid stands I was using.

But indeed, it left me no time other then to locate and listen quickly to the tape. But as I said in the other thread, there is more then just the one tune on there that is bad. In fact some is much worse then that one. Cant wait to post some of it for the pure horror of it all.

Yup, that's pretty much where I'm at now . They're damn sure going to be there when I'm done ! With 60 some hours of a workweek in between the plumbing sessions, I'm feeling very greatful and a bit humble for having friends that have water . heheh

I have, in my minds-eye, seen where the tape lies... waiting .

Yes yes ! Noize is appearently tied up with the troops, and I've been involved in a guerilla-plumbing project, but things should be underway soon . Basically a 'best of the worst'... it's got to be 'real bad' in one or more ways, i.e. real-nasty recording, performance, and/or both . : p

First one ready starts the thread, so feel free to get things rolling if you like . Hopefully there will be a bunch of folks about this one .

And post back herre when if you are the first one to start the thread. I know I'm watching this thread as well as others.

And ya Hue, the plumbing thing. I get back on Sunday, and now in the same bathroom I just fixed the toilet in the sink faucet takes a dive and just plain stops. So sunday was another repair day. But now, I'm back on track and hope to be having something up by Wed. or Thur.

It must be plumbing hell everywhere I guess. At least for some of us.
