This song was recorded last Friday in exactly 8 hours, I hired out the studio as a freelance engineer, and we were given exactly 8 hours to complete a single. Took the files home to mix.
The band is called AntiHero, and they asked me to add keybaords. I was also really stoked (happy) because they took seriously all my suggestions including added octave guitars in certain parts of the song and backing vocal ideas! We had a ball :-)

This is the first mix... now I will get the band to listen and make a list of changes they want made :-)

Jan 30, 2006 12:14 pm Pretty good band. yeah the gtrs are loud above the rest and just a question, The bass drum doesn't sound live enough to me compared to the snare etc any reason? or is it just me (but hey i'm only a drummer)
Jan 30, 2006 04:59 pm Crux, I don't think they are the same band...
Kaos, yeah, I think I put too much highs and not enough balls in the kick... I will change that along with the loudness of the guitars... soon
Cheers guys :-)

Jan 30, 2006 10:26 pm Hey Michelle. Watching the freq meter in WinAmp and media player and they were completely burried. So I popped it into SoundForge for a look. You might want to back down on the maximizing a bit. It was smashing into the clipping region from about 10 seconds on with only small bursts below that.
Gotta agree the guitars maybe had a lot to do with that as well. It was really loaded in the low to upper midrange. I didnt run a full blown freq anylizer on it but the stock one was showing some heavy stuff there.
But sure liked the tune for overall. Cant wait to hear the next mix.

Feb 16, 2006 03:13 am finally updated the mix:
adjustments made according to comments above and e-mail from the band, here's a newer mix:

Did some drum blending and down tuning... because they wanted more "balls" in the drums.

Feb 16, 2006 09:28 pm Way better, much more defanition to everything. Still really loud, but not frizzeled anymore. Good punch on the vox as well as the guitars. Bass and drums sti much better now as well.
Did you finish this in your studio or at the other place? Just curious.
Feb 18, 2006 12:46 am Thanks Noize - I took it home and loaded it into adobe audition - some old habits die hard aye i guess. lol

Feb 18, 2006 09:36 pm That was probably the key to the better mix. Using the stuff you know and love makes it much easier. I know I have a hard time going into another location, always did. Bringing your own moniters helps. I have even gone as far as bringing pieces of hardware in years gone by.
But it surely shows in the mix. I was guessing that is what you had done by the soun dof the mix.
Mar 06, 2006 07:33 pm I really like the way the vocals pop out on this. Drums seem a little far back to me. I think the lead solo could be out front more. I really like the lead singer's voice... Nice tune...

Mar 07, 2006 09:05 pm Nice one. I like the vox as well, very straight on and sitting across the mix real well. I liked the guitar sounds on this one, heavy but not distracitng at all. Here the leads sounded allright so I cant beef about them at all.
