Man, talk about ungrateful...The Vikings win by a lot (against Chicago second string, admittedly) and they fire Tice's *** right after the game...WTF? Let the guy enjoy a victory and a season pulled out of the dog house to a 9-7...man, Zygi just lost BIG points with me, not that he cares...

And I won the FF championship, how the hell did THAT happen? Considering I started the season with 4 straight losses I believe...man...

well hey, the niners won two in a row to end the season. who would've ever thought they would win 4 games this year (hilarious). Our field goal kicker is our MVP!

Yeah, I forgot about fantasy football, didn't make any changes since like week 6 or something...

[edit]
Oh my goodness, I came in second place too. Rediculous.

Packers win too...and now Sherman is gone...just like that! I'm not pleased with the decision, I think he deserved better. He's had a pretty good run...one bad year doesn't make the man a bad coach. Look at all of the injuries he had to put up with!

This will probably scare off Favre too. I thought that they might try to put together a team for one more year, but that's not going to happen with a new coach. Favre is going to retire.

Yeah, Tice was fired quick, in listening to local sports talk radio, not a lot of love lost there...which bums me out. I really don't think Tice is the brightest bulb on the tree or anything, but I certainly don't think he was given the tools he needed to have a successful team either...remember, the vast majority of his time was under that skinflint Red McCombs who always ran the team tens of millions under the salary cap...

my friend said that if he was a filmmaker, he would always cast tice in the role of 'dumb guy.'

anyway, does anyone have any info on that drop kick? i read about it, but cant understand why he would have tried something that could easily backfire like that, in such a close game.

Very true, I hadn't considered the many times he has said "tell me sooner rather than later" so you have a point there.

yeah ive read about it. wish i could have seen a clip. but what i dont understand is what would make belichick say 'ok, give it a shot.' if there was no way to come back, then ok, but i think it was a close game, so they prolly shoulda tried to score again after securing the extra point the right way.

either belichick basically said 'ah, screw it. give it a shot, i dont care' or else there wasnt enough time to regain possession, i guess.

Well, I was completely dismantled in the HRC Yahoo FF league game for 3rd place. Not even close, but it was a fun season and I'll make sure I'm here to draft next year.

dB, about the Tice firing, I'm sure it must have sucked for the assistant coaches most of all, it didn't sound like anyone had been notified before the press release but I had also heard that Tice was adamant in getting the news as soon as possible. I'm not sure what your take on Tice was (mine wasn't favourable, lol) but there are a lot of decent coaches available right now and I don't think you have far to go player-wise. The future could be very bright for the Vikings with the right guy.

In regards to the drop-kick, Belichick said in his press conference that Chris Berman had mentioned a few weeks ago about seeing Flutie kick a drop-kick in the CFL years ago. They practiced the play a few times and he shanked a couple but made some nice ones too. Belichick said they wanted to give Fluite a chance to do it as his career is at it's end and one had not been attempted in the NFL since 1941. He said Flutie deserved it and I would have to agree. Flutie has had an unbelievable career in football from his days at Boston College to the CFL and NFL, especially for a guy who was constantly told he was too short to play quarterback.

I had mixed feelings about Tice, I liked him for being honest and a "normal guy" so to speak, but he wasn't much in control of his team it didn't appear. So I have no real strong opinion, but, after a few loosing seasons, yeah, time to go I guess.

And this Wilf guy, the more I hear about him from local folks that have met him and from folks that know folks that have met him is that he isn't much more trustworthy than Red McCombs, so I am not that optimistic.

Where do you think Mariucci will end up? I really think he would be a good fit in Green Bay, but nobody around here is talking about him. They keep talking about all of these assistant coaches that I have never evern heard of.

i would just like to remind everyone to expect the steelers to beat cinci this week, and then follow up by beating the pats. and then appear in the superbowl, where, in a major upset, the colts will be defeated.

Well, local rumor is the Vikings have/will hire Childress, the offensive coordinator from Philly that doesn't call the offensive plays...ah, great, can't wait...well, at least he will help turn the city of Blaine into Zygi-town like the owner wants...

Friggin great...

They may have, cuz the news jumps on things too fast sometimes (west virginia miners being alive for example), but it's not a done deal yet...but is strongly suspected to be done this morning the way I heard it, in a deal expected to be around 3 mil a year...by way of comparison the friggin leader of the free world makes 275,000 a year...WTF?

i can see why sports peeps make a ton of money. it makes me jealous, but i think i have to basically approve of it. sports generate a ton of money. high salaries are part of the draw that make people work thier tails off to make the league.

True, I can understand it from a simple business perspective, but from a social perspective it's idiotic. These people rarely do anything to actually help society with the exception of the rare few that give so generously of their time and money.

Also, it's the people that actually think it's worth $100 a seat to go watch a game, THOSE are the people that do it...I never see games unless I stumble on free tickets, which I do pretty frequently, I'd NEVER spend that kind of money personally.

All I know is that many of them that I have met and talked to are stupider than a friggin tree stump and arrogant as hell...

Ya, we tuned in KFAN for the official anouncement this mourning. He is a friggin windbag that is for sure. I think he talked for almost half an hour spouting how good he has been and will be.

I can see dB's point though, he sounded like he was really kissing Wilfs posterior this mourning. His speech sounded more corperate then anything.

$100.00 a seat to watch a game. I wont even pay $50.00. If I dont get free tickets I aint going to pay that much money to watch them loose.

Thats why I like the NHL...The guys are more approachable and blue collar...They dont make a ton of money and when they do their normal job there's no dancing after checks, dances after goals, no one pulls out a marker and signs the glass...etc...

Anyhow the new coach bit: (db and I live in the same town for anyone who doesn't know)

Childress from what I hear, was the top prospect in the league. If so I compliment the purple team for actually being aggressive in a situation like this instead of fussing over money for weeks on end while the top guys get taken...

I don't feel the same about Wilf that dB does. I can't get a read on the guy but the thing that appears good for us is he is not afraid to open the wallet which is a common trend in ownership here with all Vikings owners in recent memory and Twins owner Carl Pohlad. The Wild owners are tightwads as well...

And Minnesota fans are soooo hungry for a super bowl win that if it takes a new stadium, higher taxes and renaming the town of Blaine, I think most fans would say: Where do I sign??? Which makes the fans quite vulnerable...

Zygi is a business man who is not scared of spending money...So is Robert Kraft owner of the Pats...

So the Steelers won it then I take it. My money was on them anyway. I hope they won as I won my other games as well. This will give me the alltime highest win percentage in our football pool history. Now I just have to pick the rest and I doubt anyone will ever come close to it.

YA, I know I'm all seklf absorbed about it. But hey, after loosing for 4 straight years and not winning but 2 pools I am feeling rather full of myself for this years winning picks.

good job noize. yeah, they won, but honestly, i was kinda mad at some of my pitt friends. when palmer got injured and taken out on the second play, they were telling me 'its the playoffs, man, it happens.' but i wanted a strong bengals, so that pitt could really test themselves. but kitna came out strong and was worrisome for a long time. pitt didnt look so great at first. i figured it was because the plays that were being called in the beginning were soooo conservative. all running plays, and i felt the steelers didnt have the luxury of those.

i thought that kind of play calling was a weakness, but the more i think about it, it almost seems like this team has this luxury. they can wait to turn on the passing game until they have to--they seem to do better when they absolutely have to

that trick play was really cool to watch

Yeah, their little gadget plays are cool, that one worked really well. I felt really bad when Palmer went down, and actually, so did the steeler that did it, you could see he was bummed out, that guy USED to be a Bengal. I was hoping to see a tighter game, but after the second first stringer went down I figured she was over.

Absolutely. Kimo did feel so bad when he took out Palmer. I think the Steelers really did want to win against the Bengals at full strength. They split results in the regular season, so there was some "unfinished business."

The defense were a little weak in the first quarter, but I think the offense were quite fantastic all the way through. The Bus really wants a ring...

Mark my words: If Tampa picks up T.O. it will be the biggest mistake they've made since they picked up Keshawn. Don't they learn? Gruden should know better than that. He's friends with Andy Reid...to me it's a slap in the face...he's basically saying, "You guys just don't know how to deal with a guy like T.O., but we do." Yeah, right!

If TO took it upon himself to blame McNabb for the teams problems...what is poor Simms gonna have to deal with? Simms isn't a bad QB, but compared the the cult status McNabb is getting for himself...Philly is McNabb's team, period, Simms isn't that...I dunno man, I'd run for cover...
