Don't know how long you've been doing it, but I just noticed that we now have titles next to out member name. Kinda cool. Think maybe you made a mistake calling me a Senior Engineer, not sure I deserve that much credit, but I think its cool. Right on.

ya, it's a post count thing, the number for each level may change periocially, or the number of title may change periocically...if you have any titles you think would be cool, mention them if I recall right now we have:

Newbie
Apprentice
Intern
Junior Engineer
Senior Engineer
Producer

Noise, you are a stich! And you see the future! It happened! Internship! I think I will hang out at this level for awhile if that's in the starz. All that credibility etc. connected with engineer might lead a newbe astray. Ipprentice and intern fit!

yea.. jack those things way up
id space them 25 for the first level.. 100 for the 2nd.. 200 for 3rd.

just suggestions.

OK, I jacked them up, what I really need is more title though...I am already at the highest, I would like to have more titles to go around...

suggestions anyone?

Well, guy's like George Martin, Alan Parsons, Glen Ballard, Eddie Kramer, Phil Ramone, and Arif Mardin, and a select few other's are known as WORLD CLASS PRODUCER'S. That could be the top level. You could throw in (Technician) after Intern, and I do like Janitor, that could come after newbie.

Administrator
Since: Apr 03, 2002

May 20, 2002 09:22 pm

Tecnician, I like that, I can do that, Janitor I should do, but I just don't know if new people to our community would appreciate the humor the same way we do :-)

And I do agree, Producer should be the top, I just don't want everyone to get there quickly...myself included...

Yeah, it sucks to be demoted! What will I tell all my friends? lol I like the janitor thing. What was that old saying, "F%$k 'em if they can't take a joke!" (I wonder who said that, I think it's from a movie, but not sure) ANyways, as far as titles, you could possibly have an assistant status as a sort of intermediate between levels. IE. Assistant Engineer or Assistant producer, that would give you a little more space inbetween. I know you got like junir and senior, so those are kinda the same thing, but just a thought.

Administrator
Since: Apr 03, 2002

May 21, 2002 09:48 pm

ya, maybe instead of junior and senior it should be Assistant Engineer and Engineer? That's a decent idea, but I don't think I wanna do that for the Producer rank...

Maybe I will toss janitor in there for a few posts...not a long ranking, but a little just for a joke...I prefer "Joke 'em if they can't take a f$#%" :-) New twist on an old joke...

My niece is a light bird and just got transfered to the pentagon for the remainder of her career. She anticipates making coffee for the generals until she retires! Talk about top heavy! (not her fool! the army!)

How about Gofer? Maybe around aprentice, cable puller.

Administrator

Jun 06, 2002 08:32 am

We talked about that, but a Gofer is actually kinda what an apprentice is...they are sorta the same, maybe I will stick that in there though...keep the suggestions coming tho, I would like to have as many titles as possible...no matter how many I add, I am satill always a producer, I want to give myself something to strive for! Maybe I will just increase the post count...but I don't want to wait too long between titles, it takes some of the fun out that way...

Personally, instead of newbie, I'd have FNG. (F'ing New Guy). That's what I was called when I started my last job. TOok people almost 6 months before they knew what my name was! It just sorta fits in a place where there is a lot of turn-over. ANyways, I like cable puller as well. Make 'em slop through the trenches before they get any respect! lol Just kidding, it is funny though, adds some humor to the site.

OK, now you are not a newbie, but a "Roadie" (I am disgusted I didn't think of that earlier) newbie is soooooo generic and the post numbers have been modefied a little bit...and when you hit 1000 messages, well, just wait and see ;-)

Hey look, I got de-moted again. My life is really goin down-hill. hehehehe Check out this little tidbit I found about the description of (Assistant).

Assistant Engineer

The "assistant" in "assistant engineer" perfectly describes the job's function. Assistants (or seconds, as they are also known) set up the recording studio for a session, handle the cables properly, place microphones, and assist the first engineer throughout the session.

If you exhibit technical aptitude as an assistant engineer and your boss finds out that you know how to "fix things," you might be groomed for a tech or maintenance gig.

And you guy's all thought maybe the job would be glamourus. :-)

Well back to work for me, I gotta alota post's to get to the top. And at this rate, I probly never will. Oh Well.

Oh, and hey Dingo. Fuzzball is used as an endearing term here. I was even called fuzzball, as were my 2 son's even B4 dB and I really knew each other very well. Now if he refered to you as a schlep on the other hand, that would be a bit derrogatory.

Yeah... but how did I get dubed fuzzball? Not that I'm complaining I just wanna know the story behind my new nickname and such.

And my 2 cents... what does a roadie have to do with a recording studio? Or maybe that's the point. I dunno... it's late and I'm tired. Lol.

do you really think theband carries their own gear into the studio? roadie suits the studio as much as gigging.

As far as the nickname well, if you really wanna know here ya go. Noize and I met when I started to work as the technician at our local Computer Renaissance store, right next door was a Music Go Round store. A mutual friend or ours managed them both (and he actually stops by this site every now and then) he had to pet phrases he used, one was "laugh it up, fuzzball" whenever anybody made a joke at his expense and the other was "I have a good idea, you don't you shut the hell up" I always thought they were both kinda funny and have used them from time to time and whenever I do Noize and I have a good chuckle remembering the good ol' days.

<suckin' up>
So you see, by saying that I was really figuratively pulling you into the world of Noize and I and making you part of our insiders ;-)

Well MY old band carried all of our stuff into the studio... but hey, we were poor. When we were all living together I think the main item for lunch and dinner was a piece of cheese on a piece of bread... I don't think you could call it a sandwitch seing as there was only one slice of bread. But anyway, thanks for the nickname. Maybe I should change from Dingo to Fuzzball... hmm... but then I'd have to be a studio janitor...

On a lighter note. We didn't make a lot of money in a couple of the band's I was in, but we did allow for extra beer. And that was how we got our gear carried in to most place's. A roadie is not necasseraly a guy who gets paid and is a proffessional.

Pick a couple of friend's who you can trust with your gear, and promise them something free at the gig's, and give them special treatment now and then, and viola you have a couple of roadie's.

Oh ya, and don't foget to mention their name's once in awhile at gig's and such, that keep's them feeling good.

Dan, I took the title out a long time ago to increase page speed, seemed like a waste of a good database hit to get those titles, but with my improved coding and such they may work their way back eventually...it was tites based on total post count of the person...so in order to get them I had to query to see how many posts each person has...

hey db,

You could alwasy create a link on the "My Profile" page to "Apply for a Promotion" which would then make the query and then store the title as part of the profile. Not exactly the most seamless way to do it, but it would bring back the titles and cut down on the database hits. Just a thought.

hmmmmmm, interesting idea...actually, what I plan on doing is adding another piece to the websites personal customizations where people can add their own title, as well as their own greating on the front page rather than "Hello, xx, Welcome Back" you could customize that too...

your idea is decent tho, I am a sucker for dynamics tho ;-) I like things built on the fly...hehehe, it costs me sometimes tho.

I hear ya db with the dynamics. I definitely prefer to have things that way too. I guess it just has to come down to "bang for the buck." I mean really, does it actually add any significant value to the site if there are titles dynamically generated for each user? Probably not.
