If you can't get it from Steinberg, they must have discontinued it. Don't ask us to help you find any illegal download sites to get it. Steinberg would be the only one we would point you to.

I've been fooling around with Endorphin, which is a free dual-band compressor in a VST plugin format. It's simple, although not as simple as Magneto, but my initial results are pretty promising.

Oh, and I also saw a site where a French fellow made his own version of Magneto. I'll try to dig up the link.

voxengo has a vintage warmer type plug-in, haven't used it though.

actually, they have all kinds of stuff on their site.

they also have a free vst tube amp plugin, reads that it warms up a signal, etc. Haven't used it either, but for free, may be worth the look.

yeah, they have a Har-Bal knock too, which isn't bad, but surely isn't Har-Bal without the loudness compensation.

Some neat stuff there

Here's the page with the Magneto impersonator on it. This has to be the worst formatting ever on a web page!

argh, that does suck, notice the table cell width is "80" instead of "80%" which is why it's all screwy.

Voxengo also have VOXENGOOLDSCHOOLREVERB which is absolutely fantastic. There's a patch on there for Mix Definition which makes things just sparkle. I love Voxengo stuff.

Magneto is bundled with Cubase SX 2.0. Which kind of sucks because I was not able to get the plug to work with wavelab.

Magneto is just a VST plug (now, used to be DirectX I believe), I use it in WaveLab every damn time I open WaveLab...

I was just saying that the latest version of magneto (2.0 I think) is bundled in Cubase. I have an older version that I use directX in Wavelab (that one is version 1.5 I think)

yeah, that's the one thing I don't like about the vintage warmer as well...it's too damn deep for the simple task of saturation.

I've been messing with a plugin called "Ruby Tube" for warming/saturation-modeling . It has a 'shaping' funtion, and a limiter to choose from . I don't remember where I found it, and I can't seem to find it out there now, dadnabbit .

maybe i will try that "ruby tube" instead, by the way i am using cakewalk sonar 3 and it has this tape simulation plugin bundled with it, i think it's not a compressor type of thing but what it does is altering the low frequencies for a tape effect, maybe you guys know what it is. is it a good plugin or what?

leduex...
I'm not sure what program you're using to record with, but the route is like this with Cakewalks programs :

Programs->"your software"->Shared Plugins

And just my 2 cents onf the Vintage Warmer. Even though it canb e a very deep app to run, it also come with some absolutely killer presets from the factory. So you can get great results right out of the box without haveing to be a major knob twisting geek.
