hey guys, i'm curious to see just how everyone's home studio looks like and since it's not yet an option to post pictures in your profile maybe you'd post them here. actually i'm looking for a better setup as far as desks go and looking for some ideas!

keep in mind that this is a family oriented site so don't be an idiot!

here's mine:

Wowzers, nice! I'll have mine up in a bit... although I don't think I have as much gear to show off-- but I do have a home made rack!

Okay, here's a little collage I made of the various sections of my studio- mostly just the desk. The picture's a little fuzzy, but it's not too bad. It's all in my basement, which was just recently re-finished and isn't quite done. I can't wait untill I get that new pre-amp, though, that will make things look cooler :)

Thanks, Flame. Yes, I do play the drums. Only for 3 years or so-- And I just bought that set a couple months ago. I never told myself I was going to start learning or anything, it just sort of happened. And then after a few years of playing on other people's sets it got to the point that I was good enough that I decided I deserved a set of my own :) So now I can actually practice- which is good. It's also nice to have all three main "rock band" instruments right where you record so you can track everything without calling someone else up if you want to. As for lava lamps-- I've been thinking I should put mine down in the studio too, except that I'm afraid I'd knock it down off the top of the desk and break it! I love the color combo in el Musico's room. Even the lava lamp matches-- And that light in the back is stylin' :)

hey thanks for the props on the room! just remember, a comfortable workspace doesn't mean my room is tuned... of course that is next when i build the new desk setup. i'd like to move everything out of the corner and in the center off the left wall so my setup is symmetrical to the room and i want to take the speakers of the desk and decouple them on separate stands.

i'm in the process of designing a folding/breakaway iso-room for vox by using four 7' X 3 1/2' plywood planks insulated by soundboard from home depot (both sides), and attaching the panels by piano hinges and some weather stripping, then stapling some black fabric to everything to make it look pretty. when i'm done, and if it works well, i'll post some pictures or maybe contribute it to the tutorial section for others to try.

This topic did come up once before a long time ago, but nobody really participated. I never got around to taking any pictures, so I was happy when it came around again.

Haha... good ol' Josh. There's a lot more grafiti these days though.

The pics just don't do the place justice. It's really a cool place. It's not the best for recording, but it's great for practicing.

And believe it or not, we've had quite a few shows in there.

How did you make that rack porp?

It's just made out of 3/4" plywood, stained to my liking and held together with wood screws. It has one shelf in the middle to keep the thing stable and hold some of my non-rackmountable stuff. It's got 4 small casters on the bottom so I can wheel it around. If I could go back and make it again (Which I may do some day) I would have made it a little wider and bought actual metal rack 'rails,' which I didn't realize you could buy when I built it. So everything is just screwed into the wood with regular rack screws (Just drill a hole before you mount). Next one I make I think I'll add a couple of coats of polyurithane to make the thing shine :) If you do make one, just realize that you have to be REALLY precise with all your cutting and measurements or it won't fit together right. Also, if you do put a shelf in it, I would recommend making it so the shelf doesn't go all the way back so you can have more space for wiring.

Porpoise--

It's nice--warm, though it can be noisy.

Works pretty well as a bass DI as well as as a mic preamp, by the way.

Jues-- I can't seem to download the songs either. The only one I could get was Swandive, directly from flipcycle.com. Maybe if you repost them as actual links on the board here than you can right click and save target and it will work.

A little question about swandive--
You have the singer's vocals doubled up in the Chorus, right? I can't tell if you've got two tracks panned left and right or one in the middle and 2 off the sides or what. Anyways, it sounds really cool. I hear a lot of that slight multitap delay that you talk about and I've begun using a lot. The vocals are only doubled in the chorus, though, right? Thanks, man.

Hey

Well, it appears someone (probably al) has deleted the 160kbps mp3's from the site - can't say I blame him, EP01's pretty old. We're working on the next ep (our 3rd one, the 2nd one got scrapped ;) which should be ready soonish (drums are done, just waiting for the bass player to get his arse into gear).

ALL the vocals in swandive were double tracked and panned about 25% in either direction - they also have a multi-tap delay on them.

Laters.
