Jun 28, 2003 07:11 am didn't we have this a few months ago , oh well ..I'd say there are a few but if i had to pick one that has inspired me in full circle , i'd have ot say "the Fragle" by NIN . Trent's not only a good artist but also a fine producer .
Jun 28, 2003 07:25 am Ya, we go through this every few months. To pick out a single recording over and above others is impossible.

Jun 28, 2003 02:04 pm soundgarden--superunknown
i think the album's pretty good itself--although its not one of my top five favorites musicwise...
but theres just something about the recording. a sense of space.
another good one is tool--aenema--
there are some organic sounds in there that give it some strange sort of life.
radiohead--the bends
always seemed very real to me. like a hot wire.
radiohead--ok computer
great instrumentation and textures

Jun 29, 2003 05:15 am just to take it off course a little...out of interest, what is everybodies favourite reording made by someone on hrc?
im a huge fan of jues's flipcycle stuff, tony d's got some cool acoustic stuff, dbs got some good tunes in progress, and jamies dnb track is the4 dogs...
theres probably a few ive left out coe to think of it, but these are the obvious ones...
Jun 29, 2003 06:48 am fav HRC? hmmm, one of collapses, but I forget what the title is, the second-to-last one he posted here...although, I have to say I like flames beatles-esque stuff, flipcycle, I can't help but give Hero the ranking of one of the most improved engineers...his recordings have gotten exponentially better sounding since I have known him and listened to his stuff.
This post would go on and on if I mentioned everybody's music that I like, but I have to say that there is a lot of talent visiting this website.
Jun 29, 2003 04:17 pm One of my favorite commercial CDs for production is "Up" by R.E.M. They've got a lot going on and it all just falls right into place.
As for HRC recordings, pretty much everything I've heard from Jues has been stellar, collapse is awesome. Jamie's recent posting was very nice. I think db is right. There's too many good ones to pick. We've got a lot of talent running around here these days!

Jun 30, 2003 02:31 am forty - you picked some awesome albums! i disagree with you about the music on superunknown...the grooves are insane. getting into the full on chorus on the title track gives me chills every time.
you can be sure that there's a lot more about ænema than just tracks and mixing.

Jun 30, 2003 05:24 am oh yeah, and anyone who hasnt checked out anything by cotton mather before, should - not just for the spot-on tunes but also for the ridiculously brilliant and innovative production techniques...
Jun 30, 2003 10:00 am sing to god parts 1 & 2 - cardiacs
guns - cardiacs
both albums (well three) are amazing construction from the songwriting to the absolutely brilliant production.
justified - justin timberlake (gf bought it but the pharrell williams and timbaland productions are really ineresting)
millenium - killing joke - part recorded in egyptian tombs - the echo is intense
but of all time - eerrrrrrrr....
king crimson - beat
from that list you may not realise what tunes i make!
Jun 30, 2003 10:04 am justin timberlake? all time fav? Whoa, that may just be "justification" for banning there pixel ;-) Althought he did score with Britney, Janet and a couple others so, well, I have a certain amount of respect for the guy :-D

Jun 30, 2003 10:11 am dB - sounds like you need to get out to the middle of the floor and start rockin yo bahdday. dance with may!
Jun 30, 2003 10:13 am ok, so he's stan laurel in a not good disguise, but he didn't produce the album, pharrell williams of n.e.r.d. produced half, while timbaland produced the rest.
some of the layering and effects, especially the beat box stuff is amazingly produced.
in my defence, my partner bought it cos she likes it, but i wouldn't pay cash for it, although i will listen to anything once!
please folks, check out the cardiacs...i know i get all happy clapper about them but if you are a musician you HAVE to listen to them at least once.

Jul 01, 2003 02:46 am shambon muther-trucker!
just finished really listening to 'something wicked this way comes' by herbaqliser. cinematic breaks with some good hip-hop funk thrown in, and the orchestra is very well recorded. they've really managed to get a big band sound with it too.
eeee-heeee! get ma bad self!

Jul 01, 2003 05:13 am I'll second that "Something Wicked This Way Comes" is awesome. Check out the artist "Cinematic Orchestra" as well.
