Well it was my birthay today, and as a present to myself, i thought I'd mix one of my own songs for once. I've been so busy mixing other people, that I havent had a chance to work on these at all! they have been sitting on my harddrive unmixed for months.

This is my first rough mix of this one, but I don;t know if I'll have much time to fix it up. they are afterall only demos, but finally I have a recording with some real instruments... my friends who helped me out on this one are: Andrew Cochrane (on drums and keys), Nick Jones on bass, and Simon Whitlow on Guitar.

Happy B-day Michelle !

Cool harmonies !... drum mix is nice, especially the toms . I've always dug tunes that have that 'lead guitar running all the way through it' thing... though, I've always found it a bit difficult to pull off properly . Nice one !

Just listening on headphones, but overall, I'd say the whole mix sounds not up front enough. Also I think your back ground vocals could come up in volume. Everything sounds good in relation to each other, otherwise. YOu should definitely do more of your own stuff.

Real nice songs Michelle. I particularly like "Sometimes". The mixes sound pretty good, maybe a little bottom heavy, but take that with a grain of salt cause I've been recording/mixing a song the last few nights mostly in my headphones so my ears are kinda shot to say the least. :) Level wise everything sounds pretty good. 2nd listen on Sometimes, man that's a nice one Michelle, you should really try and sqeeze in more time to do your own stuff.

Ooooooo, balladee!!!

Nicely done Michelle. Did you do all the backing vox yourself as well? You have a nice way with harmonies for sure.

The bass is settled in real nice, and the drums sound very open. Kind of spread out, in a god way.

I liked the way the vox and guitars collide at about 3:26 or so, very cool touch.

But the song itself, I am such a sucker for a well done ballad with some slightly heavy elements in them. And this one caught me pretty much instantly.

Oh ya, Moving Again was great as well. Loved the organ as well as the guitar licks all the way through the tune. A small touch of Santana there.

Again, nice drums and the bass was there but not over powering.

Michelle, Nice mixes and Happy B-day!, I like the snare, tons of body. Question...RU compressing straight to the tracks at all, or just straight up no chaser? All around ..nice job., and yes, you should spend more time on yur stuff.

Thanks guys!! I'm really quite happy with how these are kinda turning out, especially considering the lack of time we all spent on doing these! I really should have organised a sorta "session band practice" before getting them in one by one to the studio, The hardest part in mixing these has been trying to sort through the "chaotic/improvised" parts from everyone that are all different on every take...

ooooooOOOOO, don't look now, but this has to be my personal favourite aye!! move over santana! muhahaha

OK, I gotta agree as well. This one is now my new favorite. I'll rotate it through myspace along iwht the hundred or so other tunes I have to rotate through. 90% of which came from linking to you on myspace. :-)

I think this is the best sounding of the three so far. Love the organ and guitar, and again the drums and bass just drive it along smoothly. Give my compliments to the guitar player on the great leads throughout the track. And your keyboard playing is great as well, really adds a jazzy feel to it.

PS. I still havent figured out how the heck to get the bigger player on myspace page yet. That would really help rotate some of the new music and bands asking to be added through my page.

Diggin the music,

real nice song...very catchy and enjoyable to listen to.

Mix sounded real nice...everything sits well and nothing is buried...no mud...did I say this mix sounded good?

I really liked the organ in this track and the vox sound real pro...excellent harmonies throughout...

It may have been your birthday, but this track is a nice gift for us...

thanks for sharing.

OMFG, Michelle the voices are absolutely beutiful. Now I am absolutely torn between this one and One Day! This one almost jerked a tear outa me. The piano really pushes the mood in this one. And the gats are very nicely placed in the mix. The drums as usual are also very well set in the mix along with the bass line. The voices in the ;chorus are absolutely wonderfull and full. I am very jealous, the harmonies are splendid.

I am so glad to see you take some time to get your own stuff mixed, and very well I might add.

I will definately take another listen on sunday when we get back from camping. But I doubt I will find anything to be critical about.

The fat one always watches us.

Very good, I thought. The only thing that didn't work for me was that kick drum figure that comes in sometimes during the chorus( just before 40 seconds into the song is one example). Just my worthless opinion, but it seems to sound somewhat stumbling and detracts from the drive of that part of the song.

To put it into perspective, the song is far better than anything I could do.

Cheers

Well, this last one is a winner, even though the one before is kinda rockin and I still love it, this one just really shows your voice so well. Honestly though they both really push your talents to the front.

And honestly I love the mix, very readio friendly if you ask me.

Nice guitar work right off the bat. This is another that just seems to suit your voice so well. If I might be so bold. You have the most innocent sounding vocal style. It reminds me of a girl who recorded one of my songs many years ago.

I love the arrangement as well, very compelling. Again the harmonies are stellar and well placed. The mix is also very well done, I cant think of anything I would say to change in it. Please give my compliments to the guitarist as well, very nice sound and simple leads that compliment the vocal parts. This one would definately get radio play over here on several of the commercial stations that do contemporary.

I have to admit this one really hit me with some very heavy emotional feeling. One word, Beautiful!

Thanks Noize! I like the descriptions 'innocent sounding vocal style' and 'beautiful'... its much better than the "your vocals would be lovely if you got some singing lessons"/"you sound like a little girl" comments I get from some people!

Yes, Rearranged was probably the most heartfelt one, as it was written about a real situation, whereas most of the others were kinda 'flights of fancy'.

WOW, awesome backing vocals in the chorus!

Love the reverb snare reverb.

Agree with noise, good mix, and your voice suits the arrangement.

While I think singing lessons can be great, I honestly dont think you need them. I have known several people who took them and it changed the way they sang forever, and usually it was not for the good either. I think your singin style and voice fits the music you are writing very well and I honestly wouldn't change a thing.

And yes, you can hear it in your voice that the song is more then just another song.

I think you've got a great voice myself. Fits the style of music you do, and is right in line with the popular female vocal sound. This last song you posted is really great and along with CS I agree the backing vox are super. Nice!

Well it very well could be. I am in the same boat. When singing on a regular basis I rarely used my own real voice. I alwasy emulated the bands we may have covered. And when doing my own material I had and still do have a tendancy to go somewhere else in my head. I become another person. Because, yes I dont like my own voice. If I try to sing with my natural given voice I go into this nasal almost Bob Dylan kind of thing. So I choose to become another for the moment. That may be the reason all my original material sounds like a differant singer from song to song. To me that is good and bad I guess.

Done, your at both 5 and 7. Two songs in the top 10, very impresive indeed. I'll be playing em at least once a day to see if we cant get you to number 1 and 2 respectively.

I don't care much for my voice either. I always wanted and tried to sound like John Lennon & Paul McCartney (depending on the song) for the longest time, then Lou Grahm and a few others, but even though I try to sound like somebody else but it never works I always sound like me. Good or bad No one will ever mistake me for someone else. LOL

I gave ya a listen as well, and will try and do so for the next few day as well.

Hey Michelle, I'm DL'n it now. I'll probably not get to listen till tommorrow.

Been awhile since you dropped a new tune, so a remix should be good. And one of my favorites as well. You know I love the lyrics to this one.

Oh heck I couldn't resist, I had to listen a little tonight. Your voice just sounds so right on this tune. I loved the new percusion track, really gives it a differant feel. The lead guitar is perfectly placed in my opinion, especially the bit near the end with just your voice going with it.

OK, enough for now. I'm starting to get teary eyed.

OK, got to listen a bit louder today. I like the way you sent the drums through the filter, makes for an interesting effect. Interesting panning goin on as well with the drums. I still love the guitar solo's, very present and set well in the mix. But your voice on this one is killer without a doubt! I like the way the bass just kind of floats in the mix, very soft and un-assuming. And the piano part is very good as well, it really adds to the feel of the tune.

I cant think of anything I'd try to fix on this one.
