For those of you who, like me, are restricted in their gear funds, I've found a couple of nifty plug-ins that have become favourite.
Helion 1st Bass:

A bass amp simulator that gives a lovely "round" sound. Features include a gate, MIDI controlled parameters, clean/driven channels, and overall a very pleasing sound.
Helion 2nd Bass:

As above, but a more modern sound. I tend to do more clean stuff, and this is a little too edgy for me.
Voxengo Boogex: (I might be a late starter on this one, I know a lot of people love Voxengo's stuff. I do.)

Nice guitar amplifier simulator with a huge array of cabinet/mic/mic placement parameters. Very nice sound. Mic emulation includes the U87, and the SM57. Trés cool.
Overall price: $0.00
These are CPU hogs, but used sparingly they add a lovely warmth to recordings. I'm restricted as to when I can actually have a real amp/speaker going, so these are great for the DI hound in me. No funds left (especially at this time of year) for V-AMP/POD type thingies.
Anyway, have a look.
