Whats up this is C Dog from Shut Down Productions. I have been recording and mixing for about 6 months now and I have a lot to learn. But these forums have been great in teaching me tips and techniques. All of our music is recorded in a small booth with a pretty dead soundfield. The Blue Baby Bottle is our mic and we use a focusrite platinum pro preamp. Our beats are made in Reason and rewired into Nuendo to mix with the vocals. We use waves plugins to mix with. Anyways I got a track that I would appreciate any input on. You can find it at:
www.myspace.com/shutdownproductions
The song is called "Hold UP"
There is explicit lyrics in it so be warned.
I appreciate any tips you can provide about mixing, recording or anything that can make my mixes sound better. Thanks for your time.

Nov 11, 2005 06:06 pm Well the mix sounds pretty good. The sparse instrumentation fits well with the beat. I gotta admit I'm not much into the lyrics contained within the track, but the vox sit well in there as well. Nice smooth mix.
And just to warn those who may listen to this track. Be advise the lyrics are very explicit. This one surely earns the stamp of PARENTAL ADVISORY!
Nov 12, 2005 01:53 pm Clint, mix sounds good. Cool beat too. The one thing that keeps me listening to Rap is the beats...lol.

Nov 14, 2005 11:12 am Hey man. The mix is nice. Good levels and nice arrangement. The vocal rythms are tight and well placed.
I quite like my hip-hop a bit more rough around the edges but the production does suit the M.C's voice and the whole thing has a very smooth, polished feel to it.
As a listener I would have liked to have something extra come in after that nice instrumental at the end. Maybe a different voice to add a contrasting tone and rythm to the main vocal lines before the main vox comes back in. I just felt like I wanted to hear something new along with that vocal at the end. New but not overpowering.
That's just me man. I mean it all in a constructive way. Besides I could probably never have even written it, let alone have produced it!
Lets hear some more tunes!

Nov 14, 2005 05:35 pm so, the mix on this is pretty hard.
Comments:
I think the vocals could come up a little bit and maybe cut some of the low frequency on the vocals (80Hz and below).
The clap sounds real nice but maybe slightly loud.
The pizz strings that come in could be a little louder.
Other than that it sounds pretty quality. Flow is nice, even if I outgrew feeling those sort of lyrics long ago.
