So we're in the car the other day, picking Da Boy up from pre-school. He's just three.

"Put that song on, Mama." He says.
'er indoors turns on her fave new CD, and starts skipping tracks....
"No, not that one...."
"No, not that one...."
Finally the wanted track comes around....
"Yes....turn it up woud."
'er indoors turns it up a bit...
"Wouder."
It's quite loud.....

Then, in a very loud, and proud voice, Da Boy sings along.....

"And da wam, wies down, on BROADWAY!!!!!!!"

Yeah, it's so f'ing cute.
He wandered into my "studio" a few weeks ago - he "plays" the keyboard - even though it's not plugged in.
I had a condenser mic set up, and I set my drum sequencer to a "hip hop" type beat, stuck the cans over his ears and left him to it.
He made up words and sang, with pretty good timing I might add, for about fifteen minutes.

Mixed feelings:
He has a musical side, and a good voice for a three year old (hits all the notes, and has good timing), and it's something I should nurture.

On the other side, I don't want him hanging around bands......... :P

Ha ha
No, no... exploit him for fun, and profit !

Seriously though, if he's got the tallent, and is so inclined to do the band thing, I doubt you'll have the capacity to keep him from it as you are probably quite aware of some of the genuine-benefits of being in a band... the kind you just don't get from anywhere else... you know, the value of that timeless moment when everything exceeds all expectations, and things sound so perfect for the first time after all that work, and time involved making it work... it's just not the same if it were an academic or even monitarily inclined... it's friggin' magickal . It's great that he has exhibited some tallent, that and your guidence may keep him out of the wrong bands, and land him that elusive 'moment of transcendance' that makes it all worth it on some level other than the tangible, or intellectual . It was better said by someone else : "That boys got the boogy in him... it's in him, an' it got to come out ."

Good luck with him . Hopefully his profile on HRC won't sound anything like yours, or mine . ; )

Dude, that rocks. My kids were that same way, and they grew up around bands and musicians. Hangin out in bars and clubs and studio's. I have to say it gave them the courage to become individuals and not worry about whether they fit in with this group or that one. Not saying it turned out perfect or anything, but they are not half bad kids. And they will listen to anything someone asks then to, music wise.

And as well, your 3 year old is getting into Genesis??? That is the absolute best part.

Tuna, who is now almost 16 had the same kinda situation. He loved a tune and always wanted to here the fired horse song. It happened to be Dada's first album which had a merry go round horse on the cover int flames. The tune was DisneyLand. But all he knew was the fired horse. I still ride him about it to this day.

That's the coolest thing!

Actually the boy LOVES to listen to Tool. However, since he's "communicator" (can't shut him up)..(early talker - and using sign language from VERY young), he's beginning to pick up on the naughty words. This is where the Parental Advisory sticker is appropriate!

Yeah, it's cool he likes Genesis. Even cooler that it's early Genesis.

Ya, the swearing thing is tuff untill he can uderstand the differance between the good and bad. And its not something to use in everyday vocabulary.
