Which do you guys think is better and why?

I vote Empire. It was so much darker and didn't have a bunch of annoying teddy bears running around.

Empire... great opening battle scene...

But which is your favorite book?

mines Tales of the Mos Eisley Cantena... Would have been Tales of the Bounty Hunters (or was it Jabbas Palace?) but there was some continuity issues with Bossk with another book which was badly repaired... It did take me a while to accept Chewie dieing in the NJO series though...and Vergere is my favorite character... though I think the most interesting character to see on film would be Tahiri Veila.

I'm still trying to decide who is older... Zonama Sekot or the unmentioned vampire guy in the Mos Eisly Cantena (the guy smoking the pipe thing) ... probably Sekot...

Quite frankly, I think Cartman could kick any Jedi/Empire's ***.

He kills me all the time.

well... basically if you look at other scifi's like Forbidden Planet most sci-fis will espouse atleast one semiplausable theory or explain things with theory... often dealing with atomic anxiety or psychoanalysis... or be "visions of the future" like Things to Come" (which I feel is one movie that most needs to have a modern adaptation)

Star Wars is much "better written" in a classical sense in that it follows most of the rules of mythological story telling. To really understand the difference you should read "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" by Joseph Campbell.

...too bad it didn't cover writing good modern love story...

aye, star wars is a campbellian style fantasy myth which includes technology. not to reduce it.

something that struck me about empire was all the innocent independent contractors on the death star that were killed by the rebellion.. caught in a war they had nothing to do with :)

Anybody play star wars galaxies? I thought that was the biggest ripoff. Like you had to buy the game for $50, AND pay like $15 a month to freaking play it online.

I was like "screw that" I'll play counterstrike online for free.

No...but I have both the D6 and D20 Role Playing Games... I like the D6 system better.

America's Army is completely free :) ...though it's a rather huge download.

While I appriceate the Clerks reference (which is actually what spawned this question), the innocent independent contractors were killed in Jedi. There was no Death Star in Empire.

My personal opinion is in the end, it was all about how many special effects they could get into the movie, not how good the story was. I was very dissappointed to say the least. Not dissing those who actually enjoyed the movie by any means here either, so dont jump on my neck. It's just I remember seeing StarWars, and a real big screne not this mini multiplex crap and loving the special effects, as they didnt take over the entire movie. As the saga continued though it seems that the FX took on a more important role then telling the story did.

Just my humble opinion.

I'll be a real prick and go with Star Wars Ep IV just because it had this really fresh enthusiasm that I didn't really get off of any of the other movies. It's the kind of vibe someone seeing it for the first time the year it came out must have had.

I used to hate Empire FOR being too dark, but I've come to appreciate it for being a logical continuation of the "first" movie's plot. It made an awful lot of sense that it would be a push in the opposite direction after a "happy ending."

I'll go with anybody who got tired of the teddy bears in Jedi though...

Of course, someone will mention "Jedi MASTER" and the word "master" will flag dB-Wan to come in and write something praiseworthy about HarBal.

TallChap, hopefully they will have HarBal in the special hell. I know I will be there as well.
