alright, after demo'ing a bunch of multi-track software i've come to the conclusion the Sony Vegas 6.0 is the way to go for me.

Now with that figured out the next issue is my interface. i was planning on going with the M-AUDIO Delta 10/10LT PCI interface. I've read that you can have multiple cards in on PC. my only question is this. hopefully i word it right.

preamp outputs / mixer direct outs are mono. is there an option for the 10/10 to treat each analog input as a mono input. the reason why i ask is because when recording vocals, my vocalist is isolated in a separate room. she wears headphones. if her mic is plugged into one of the inputs on the 10/10, would she be able to hear herself in both ear pieces of the headphones or is this just not an option.

Well I use the M audio delta 44 and Cakewalk Guitar Tracks pro 3 and with my setup you can set the inputs to mono and monitor the sound in the headphones with both speakers with the pan set straight up the middle.

The 1010 is a nice soundcard with excellent quality for the $$. Being able to record 8-10 trax at once can be quite useful. Diemusik is right, be sure to pan to center on the mixer. Im not familiar with Vegas, but in cubase, sonar, and samplitude, when you select your input, be sure to select "mono" input if you're recording a single channel.

You can have multiple 1010lt in a pc, there's someone on the ntrack board that had 2 running to record live shows - 16 tracks at once.

as far as the mono / stereo monitor recording thing, I've putzed with that in my studio before, never had to really come up with an accurate solution as I monitor from the mixer, not from the computer. From the mixer everything is mono (i didn't have any stereo signals) so there was no problems. In ntrack, you can separate the channels into two mono tracks, or stereo so I would figure you can do it as well in others software.

dandy card that 1010lt, i haven't A/B'ed the preamps against my yamaha MG preamps, but I sure liked the card.
