Hey folks,
Finally rerecorded this song with a mic for the acoustics. Also added a new moving bass line and some fun keys in the break. Learning allot these days about mixing and mastering. I know the vocal has some distortion, . As I said the learning curve again. Did not use a compressor on them. One more pass at them in the future once I get a good compressor.

nice tune. the bass is sounding too loud and seems to be entering directly into the mixer without passing in the DI box first. Everything else sound nice. btw, if that vocal is really uncompressed it is sounding pretty good already.

congratulations.

ps: tell me if I am wrong about the bass

I think the vocals sound uncompressed, like bruno said, but they sound good. Might miss a note here or there, but still sounds good. I like the sound of them when they distort a bit. The song sounds the best at the beginning when it's just accoustic and vocals. Once everything else comes in, it sounds a bit busy. I'm not sure why it is, but my guess is some compression and maybe eq would help smooth it out. I don't know, I can hear each individual instrument. Bass especially sounds like it could be maybe compressed some more.

On a whole, this is a good song. Keep up the work on the mix.

Thanks Bruno & Coolo,
The bass was a Spector 5 string going through a Behringer V-amp for compression, then into the console. I agree about the bass. I listened to it on a couple different systems with varying results. Ona good home stereo it seems a bit muddy. I'll have to go back and work the Eq a bit more on that. I used Ozone on the final mix/mastering, but may have gone too light on compression and a bit too much on the exciter.

I am absolutly hooked on this home recording thing now. Love listening back to early stuff and comparing my progress. Still a long ways to go, but man am I enjoying the ride :-)

Philthy,

This is a drastic improvement over your last version. The acoustic guitar is sounding a lot more, well...acoustic. I love the bass! Your vocal is good, off in a few spots, and in my opinion could be brought out a bit in the mix.

Nice work!

Jim, Thanks for the kind words. I have been experimenting with recording the acoustic and various ways. I don't like the way it currently sounds on this track, but it is an improvement. Last night while recording another tune, I tried running a pencil mic at the 12th fret area, and a normal large diaphram about 3 feet away from the back of the soundhiole. Also ran the guitar direct. Had to do a little thinking to get it all to record properly, but the result was pretty amazing.

We just recycled the old vocal on this. made a couple of adjustments using autotune, but will be re-recording those soon.
Thanks again for all the kind words.

Also, there is a lot to be said for the actual guitar itself. A big solid-wood dreadnaught is going to sound richer and fuller than a middle of the road guitar with laminated sides.

What kind of acoustic are you using?

Jerod plays an alverez that is not the greates toned instrument. VERY midrange and high end heavey.

Quite a bit of improvement over the first one, nice easy to listen to song. The keys are a nice touch.

Good job.

Not much to add to the comments made above. But indeed a great deal better sound then the first rendition.

Work out the things the others have listed and I think you will indeed have an astounding track.

And agree on the keys being anice touch.

Hey phil...olddog summed it up for me...nice easy song to listen to. And like Jim...I loved the bass.

About the song itself, I liked the way it builds up to the first chorus, sudsides slightly before building again with the keys in the second verse...then builds again...I thought that was pretty cool.

Cheers,

BM:-)

Thanks BM. I've started to get the feeling that we have got something here with that tune. Will be nice to finally have a song "Totally" done :-)
think it's gettinh close.
