I was too lazy to do a search, so if this has been brought up I'll delete this thread later... but on to the question:
Has anyone used these: Edirol MA-10DBK monitors?
I found a pair of em for around 150 new, and seeing as I have no monitors at all I thought this may be my christmas present. I was just lookin for some feedback

Dec 05, 2004 03:39 pm Well, let's just not hope anyone with them is too lazy to answer...
I've heard nothing but bad stuff about their little, cheesy monitors.

Dec 05, 2004 03:46 pm I was explained that they were just souped up computer speakers...I dunno,
I never used or heard what comes out of those.
Dec 05, 2004 04:19 pm Hey Loki
I have a pair of these (cost me £110 / $220USD) new and I love them.
I've heard many folks say they are poor, rubbish, blah blah and I will conceed they are NOT perfect studio monitors. Technically speaking, I dont even know what a fully featured studio monitor is but I know that the sound from my speakers is high quality and I like it.
You can kill all the EQ on them, they come with a pair of ins (i.e 1/4 or rca) and they cost just right for the quality.
So, I work with mine and they do good. Sometimes, they can be a little misleading in the bass dept i.e. sound quite bassy when not but that may be me lugs (ears!)....who knows.
As I say, I love mine. They are shielded for use next to a PC monitor. So, I do recommend mine but since I used no other monitors my opinion is limited to my knowledge of this. I am relatively happy with the mixes I have tho so go for it....for the price, yi canny go wrong.
Good luck bud

Bwah !!! LOL
Really though, I just had a rude-awakening of sorts, on the subject of monitors . I came up with a particularly fun song this weekend, was completely inspired, and driven to get a piece up on HRC . Recorded 8 tracks worth of great sounding (IMHO) guitar, drums, and vocals . Tweaked astutely for hours, made an mp3 on a disk, and brought it into work . When I played the resulting mix through my other speakers, which are appearently more accuate than the crap I used, I found a terrible high-end mess that could've been fixed with a simple tweaking of the parametric, on the guiars . Tisk, tisk ...

Dec 06, 2004 05:24 am I spotted those too Loki. Haven't been able to find too many reviews on them though. I'd really like to hear them before I run out and buy them. Cause we all know, sometimes..looks can be deceiving.
Dec 06, 2004 07:34 am The M-Audio speakers look nice...unfortunately for me, when I bought the Edirols thats all that was around/available/that I could afford.
I dont think they are half as bad as a lot of press and write ups would have you believe but each to their own I guess.
I do remember someone telling me how they werent "real" monitors and meant for games or somethig. Funnily enough, they are marketted as "low end" monitors i.e. cheaper monitors hence the reason I bought them. I dont buy or play games so nae joy there then...
Then again, I do remember people telling me my studio isn't a "real" studio but I paid the same amount of attention to those comments too. I like the music I make and I am on a budget. So, to me, they are fine.
However, I would say the M-Audios look better so I'd probably at least give em a listen.
Again, good luck to ya Loki and trust yer ears on this one....
Cheers
