If you had the choice to go...where would you consider is the best audio production/audio engineering school/college/university in the world?

I'm keen to know because I'd like to compare places in the States and in Europe to what is available here.

Your advice will give me a starting point for my reseach...

Cheers,

BM :-)

Yes...the school of hard knocks is the best place to really cut your teeth...

But my son is only 15 years...and I'm thinking its probably a good idea for him to spend these next few years in a learning institution before getting out there amongst it...

Also he will still operate his home studio and is getting closer and closer to opening it for business in some form...and that will be the beginning of the 'hard knocks'.

He is already taking a few hits because his peers are going on to become doctors, lawyers, architects etc

Are there any other suggestions?

Cheers for your help so far,

BM :-)

Just about the home studio...

Our vision for it is to remain as true to the Indie spirit as is practical...particularly where teenagers are concerned...just with regard to trying to remain true to the artists vision and record with sufficient skill and quality and to remain free...

With respect to making a business from it...well we don't know what shape that will take yet...it should present itself to us...

We have a few ideas about other things too...but first things first...

Thanks to you all for your time.

Once again...cheers,

BM

Yeah it's the berkely in california. Not sure about how to spell it though.

Zek - John Petrucci is one of my idols.

Boysmum - GWAR!!! Gwar is one of the funniest bands around, and their shows are just amazing. I love getting covered in fake blood by dave brokey (odirus)

Berkeley in California and the other ones is a business school, not a music school.

Berklee in boston is the music school, they offer a major in Production and Engineering, as well as a few other music fields, and only music fields

my brother/bassist went there. expensive as hell

Thanks Dan...thinking it was actually Berkeley, CA, I didn't try the link Die provided to Berklee until now.

What is your brothers opinion of Berklee? Does he think it was worth his time and also did he complete the diploma or the degree?

Thanks for taking the time Dan...we're trying to formulate the options that could be available for these next 2-5 years.

I'm a bigger fan of supporting my son to follow his heart than I am concerned about what it might cost at this stage. The best way will present itself.

Kind regards,

BM :-)

To my knowledge, Berklee in boston, is a music school (super high reputation), but I don't know how much they focus on production and the like. I would think they focus much more on theory and muscianship.

As for UC Berkeley, in California, well that's where I went to school, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good solid undergraduate education (pick your area of study). Best public university in the country. I studied business (graduated in '00), but you can study anything there.

Sorry mum, don't know about Leeds.

Thanks Coolo for stopping by...Berklee appears to have a major in music production and engineering...but I probably suspect also...as you point out...that the course will focus more on theory and musicianship. That is good to know. :-)

Just been away a couple of days!

That was great Magma...I've been able to have a look at the Columbia Academy website and that looks good too...it seems to me to be quite practically oriented.

Did you go there? Any further advice?

Thanks for stopping by and for taking the time...really appreciated. You been coming to HRC long? I see you've just become a member...so welcome...I'm sure dB, Noize, Flame and the others have welcomed you.

By the way, thats a pretty cool website...and never been to Vancouver...not yet anyway.

Cheers,

BM
