I was thinking....

i need a bigger amp, but I really dont have enough cash for a decent one. So I thought if I could use my small behringer mixer linked to a large speaker and use it as a guitar "amp".

Is it possible? Will it sound too bad?

I have made quite a few speakers in my day and as long as you take your time and follow the rules (there are hard and fast rules to sound, how it travels dictating how a cabinet should be built) you can make VERY nice sounding speakers for a decent price.

a preamp ISN't an amp. What will you be POWERING the speakers with? You need to have an amplifier to push the preamps signals to the speakers to get any volume.

are you recording, or jamming live? if you're jammin the proper way would be either getting a real guitar amp, or going thru an amp modeler like the Line 6 POD then into a PA.
