Well, my son came down with a tune He was working on a couple or so Saturdays ago, and we recorded pretty much all of it that day, and I've been mixing and tweaking the drums since then and I think it's about ready to come out of the oven.
It's a blues tune, instrumental, though I'm working on a vocal version as well which I hope I'll have done in a couple weeks.
My son is playing 2 of the rythm guitars and the lead work.
I'm playing 1 rythm guitar, keyboard and bass.
Hope you guys will give a listen and let me know what you think on the song and mix, thanks!

Mar 29, 2010 09:25 am That's awesome that you guys play together! How does it feel to jam out with the boy you raised from a baby? Song is cool and sounds very live. Good mix!

Mar 29, 2010 01:18 pm Killer, OD!!! Lovin' this one! Mix sounds real natural, and has a great flow going on. Love the choice of notes! : )
Sounds like you guys had a blast, and a half!
... and yeah, it is a cool thing to jam with your kids, for sure. I have one singing backup on the Smooth track in my profile. : )
Mar 29, 2010 10:32 pm Hey I'm loving the feel of this recording too. It's so easy for a song to sound sterile this tune has life to it. And parent child jams take cool to the next level.

Mar 30, 2010 03:21 am Thanks alot guys, I appreciate the listens and comments. The song turned out a bit long for an instrumental, but we were having a good time doing it so it ended up a bit long :)
My Son has always been more into the Vai, Satriani type music/playing but recently He & I have been leaning in the blues direction so it was kind of learning as we went. Of my 3 sons 2 have taken up guitar, Paul is my middle son and playing on this, the youngest went classical on me, Ha Ha, so He's learning to play classical style, but still plays some stuff the old man can play when He visits. It is a blast playing with them and seeing them stick with it.
Hue, ah yeah I remember this one that was a blast of a song, really cool and even cooler to have your kid in on it. :)
Thanks again,
Dan

Apr 04, 2010 02:45 am Great sounding tune! I like it, it rolls right along, not too long at all, and I can only imagine with vocals it would be that much better. And a family affair as well....sweet.
Really good.

Apr 12, 2010 08:19 pm Thanks for checking it out McMerkin and for leaving a comment here and on the song comments. Still trying to get my voice up to doing a vocal for it, I pretty much know what I *want* to do, but I'm not sure my voice is up to it. :)

Apr 14, 2010 01:25 am Awesome tune. I dig for sure! I'm really fond of the organ, adds a nice fill to it. Mix sounds good, snare gets buried a bit at times, but that's a super minor issue for this mix I think. Feels kinda like I'm in memphis...

Apr 16, 2010 01:44 am Glad you like it coolo, I'm going to bring the softer hits on the snare up a bit and probably the drums in general up a bit. I'm pretty fond of that organ myself, I'm no keyboard player but the tone of that patch (Dimension Pro) I really liked and it did fill the song out really well I thought as well. Thanks again for the listen and comments!
