Hey All!
In the interest of provoking a new topic, I thought it would be interesting to hear what you guys feel is a 'sonically' great sounding production VS. what we like to actually listen to.
I'd like to think that we've all come across that album that blows our minds sonically but is not quite in the ballpark of the genre or realm of our choice.
A good/bad example would be Avril Levigne (this is not what i am basing this on but hear me out)...Sonically, the music sounds pretty unreal, but I wouldnt listen simply because its not my cup of tea...but sonically? yes i would and have listened to hear about the 16 layer vox etc. Any one have anything good for such a topic? or just tell me to shut up and I'll stop with my random inquisitions.
Peace HRC!

May 29, 2009 07:40 am i totally know what you mean, there are quite a few top 40 songs that are great sonically, but they really suck.
i dont really know the names of the songs though.
Here's something that maybe in your ballpark.
I bought the new Devin Townsend album coupla days ago. geez man, you should really check that **** out for great production and engineering.

May 29, 2009 08:22 am Awesome topic! Oh, and a personal 'thankyou' for securely lodging an Olivia Newton John song in my head! lol
So many well-produced songs that REALLY suck for one reason or another. Can't think of the songs they do, but the bands that do them...
The BeeGees
Men At Work
Jouney
Foreigner
... BH had a few that I'd agree with as well.
I think it's a form of brainwashing. Terrible songs selling MILLIONS of albums... it's got to be from people having them shoved down their throats(ears) by countless plays on corporate radio stations throughout the 70's, and 80's, and into the 90's.
Now, where's my guitar so I can dislodge Hopelessly Devoted from my frontal-lobe. Gross.

May 29, 2009 07:26 pm I can't honestly give a good answer since there isn't a whole lot I won't listen to. If I don't like something I generally rinse it from m y mind forever.
Although one does come to mind.
Atomic Kitten album title Right Now
Great production but I would not listen to the over poppy stuff.
May 29, 2009 09:09 pm The one that pop's in my mind right away is Steely Dan, Two against nature.
Fantastic sonically. I think every live sound engineer used it for about 5 years to tune their systems with.
But, I think if I have to suffer through it one more time..... I might just go up and kill the CD player!

May 29, 2009 09:38 pm Hue, I can't believe out of all the ONJ songs that could get stuck that is the one that did.
I would be drilling a hole in my head if I got that one stuck.

May 30, 2009 01:30 pm Right on Noize! The guitar playing did the trick, so no drilling was necessary. lol
