Another year gone by...

OK, I guess it's time for my annual, gushy, thanks to everyone for everything type forum post...so, here goes...

OK, 2008 is almost behind us...around HRC it's been a decent year, losing old faces, gaining new faces, pretty par for the course.

Myself, I haven't recorded one lick of anything outside of product reviews and stuff...as it personally has been, well, one of those years...I am hoping 2009 will be better.

Through 2008 we still have a war, and adding to that economic turmoil, social discourse, political upheaval and everything else that makes for a trying time...but at HRC, as I recall, it's actually been a pretty peaceful year on the forum and in the community, some great music and of course, just coming to a conclusion the annual fantasy football fiasco, headed up, as always, by the great and powerful guitar_jim...member, Mod and HRC long term brethern.

We still have Geoff is Guam protecting our freedom in the honorable military fashion, and Noize2u's kid, "Tuna" (Ok, whatever, "Private Tuna"), the ever-present goofball that still can't take me(tuna is a puss:-), joining the ****** military, how about that!

Coolo has been sadly evasive and fortymile continues to push my buttons with that irritating science ****.

Flame, a long time member and friend has gone on to some big things in the mobile media market, which I am never-endingly proud of and whom I personally consider one of my best friends, having never actually met and toasted a beer with.

I remember BeerHunter having some personal ups and downs (damn, who of us haven't!), but, at the height of it all, doing a project with his daughter, which so ******* rocks.

Hopefully 2009 will bring more surprises and fun, and I look forward to treking back out to Wisconsin to watch Jim rip his riffs and let my kids play on all the inflatable games at freedomfest 2009.

As always, HRC is not my programming, it's your conversation, friendship, hostility, anger, cooperation and teamwork that makes HRC work...

So, to that end, happy new year, and, in the infamous words of Eric Cartman: "Screw you guys, I'm going home". :-D

...and by going home, I mean "bmy bottle of Jagermeister" (yep, I'm looking at you Geoff)

I hope nobody feels forgotten, I am just rambling over a shot or five of Jag, toasting all ya'll with every shot...and damn I'm buzzin...

I'll continue the gush here.

It felt odd to see a few of the long time HRC members simply dissappear, but it isn't the first and not the last.

Coolo, well he has been busy as well and did stop by to say hello.

Myself, I'm just wondering were's Johnny?
As well Flame who was one of the original members here and tossed a fit at the mere thought of HRC not existing is now as dB said cranking. I still listen to his first ever tune, which was probably HRC's first ever tune No Cigarettes.

Its been great to see some of the members who are now moving upward and really doing some good sounding recordings. I love to see that. And its been a great year with lots of new music here, more this year I think then the last 3 or 4 years combined. I know I have been listening to at least 5 or 6 new tunes a week from here.

And ya, seconding BH on recording a great album with his daughter. I only hope I can get Ray to come along nicely and record some stuff with him. Nothing would please me more.

Ray wants to try and make the trip with dB and family this year to see jim as well. dumb that he is this close and I haven't met him yet.

Did get to talk to Geoff for about an hour yesterday, Tuna chatted with him for bit as well. He is doing good and getting along.

Tuna, well he is still Tuna. I'll be bummed out when he leaves this time after the visit since it means I probly won't see him again for years. As much of a PITA as the kid is he is one of my best friends. Both boyz are. But with Tuna being gone Ray has really kicked it up a notch and is digging doing the things that I used to do more with Tuna as Ray didn't have time for it.

Here, some nice addition's to the studio including that little Valve Jr. Replaced one of my racks, the slanted 30 space with a nice shallow 20 space. Ridding some gear that hasn't been used for several years. Time to clean house. But that itself has been a year long project I'm starting to see the bottom of now though and things are almost finished.

All in all, I'm ready for some Jag as well and will be toasting all you HRCer's past, present and future.

Many thanx from here for all the good and the bad. Even an old fart like me can still learn new stuff every time I turn the corner here.

AS for the studio here, well 2008 was much busier then I thought it would be after loosing 2 major clients, or I should say having my input cut to less then half of what its been for the past 10 years. But many new clients big and small have more then made up for that. Not sure I'm enjoying being that busy but oh well.

But time is getting better for me. I've got a ton of reviews and article's that will be popping up in 2009.

I'll be looking forward to hearing all the great music by you all in the coming year.

...maybe I'll just get started archiving all of your software so you can delete it again :)

but,,, been a mostly shitty year and I'm glad it's finally almost over. Couple things I'm looking forward to in 09... economy isn't one of them.

The question I am coming away with his year is why does history have to repeat itself so precisely? We have a very Great Depression-esk economy with the emergence of the Hitler-esk persona of Bin Laden. One or the other would lack a lot of coincidence factor for sure. To me it was reminiscent of a Tale of Two Cities. Very bi-polar. Some really wonderful things being done by some and a lot of this sucks by others. Personally, this was a great year for family and friends and a crappy year for bring home the bacon. Quite frankly a lot of bacon brought home in the past became worthless as it were.

I'm not gonna toss it away as it sucked. I think the personal gains outweighed the losses.

Regardless, Happy next to one to all! And to all a good fight!

You know, when I fire up my computer every morning, the first place I go is HRC. I see what's goin' on, maybe chime in on a few of the discussions, throw a bone or two to one of the noobs (their's are the only questions I'm qualified to answer), listen to some of the great music that's being made here, and just sort of make myself at home. My online home.

I have not personally recorded any new music in over a year. 2009 will be different. It seems that a lot of us find HRC, record a lot of music, get our ego-feeding positive strokes, and then we just let it go. If I claim to be a home-recording enthusiast/hobbyist, then I better get my *** back into my home studio and make some ******* music.

On a positive note, my CD Baby "Accounting" page tells me that I made $167.91 on iTunes with my "To Gettysburg" and "Hats Off to Beer" CDs. Not enough to get me into the next tax bracket, but enough of an affirmation to let me know that all of this time spent at HRC is worth it!

Happy New Year!

PS At the top of my list of priorities for 2009 is to trek over to the Twin Cities to lift a glass with dB and Noize. Some Saturday afternoon I'm just gonna come up there and there's not a damn thing you can do about it!

Jim, come on over on Thursday. We'll be having a beer at McHugh's then to say see ya to Tuna as he leaves on Friday.

My accounting page tell me to sell the crap I don't use anymore. Oh wait, that's my wife complaining about the pile of stuff down here.

OK, by me. I'm sure the boyz is fine wit anyting.

And Jim, its pretty much the same here. Once the PC is fired up HRC is the first thing opened.

I've gotten used to multi tasking and can work HRC and do studio work together now. After all these years its kinda second nature now. I can even run the 61 at the same time.

The first thing I do when the computer is up and running is check in on HRC as well, in fact it's the only board I still actively participate in.

The last year has been good, too bad, too at times excellent, though I didn't do nearly the music I had planned too when the year started, seems the older I get the less time there seems to be sqeeze in the things I'd like to do.

Hopefully things will turn for the better as we try and climb out of the pit were currently in and everyone will a great New Year.

Hell yeah guys... this year sure sucked, indeed. '09 HAS to be better! I did manage to start a new, hard-rockin' band that i'm pretty proud of. The fact that we're still together after writing the album is a good sign! ; p

Now, after loosing my (basement)studio, and moving again, it's been difficult to get the rest of it recorded... but that is the only resolution I've made... get this demo done, and start playin'-out. I can't wait for our first real show!!!

HRC is the only site I hang out on. You guys are one fun bunch, when it comes to this crazy buisness of making music, 'fun' can be quite refreshing. Thanks agian for being the cool mo-fos that you is! Peace, and prosperity for the new year to all you wonderful/insightful/crazy peeps. Cheers !!!

Oh yeah... how 'bout them Lions ?! 0-16... a new record. Bah!

Happy new year one and all! I stop by all the time but dont log in as often as I should - I just kinda listen in on other peoples conversations. We've got such a great knowledgebase with the members here that I dont often have much to add. I'm still around though, as time permits.

I'm very fortunate to have the friends that I've made here, and I too consider Dan to be the best friend I've never met. We chat over email msot days (or try to at least - its usually me that drops the ball) and keep track of each others lives remotely. I couldnt have achieved most of where i am today without Dan's involvement somewhere along the line.

As for my career, from joining HRC ten years or so ago, I've learnt, through these pages, enough to run my own audio creation business which I've since sold to another firm where I reside full time with the kinda deal I never thought would be possible way back then. True, I'm not in the studio all day like I thought Id like to be be, but I'm running a music and ringtones distribution service for one of the worlds biggest mobile phone networks. I sell hundreds of thousands of pieces of music a day to people all over the world, and it was HRC that gave me the skills to be able to do what I do. I'm eternally grateful.

Just last night, on a more practical HRC-friendly level I was setting up a PA for a New Years Eve gig myself and a small band were playing. I was singing, playing guitar, playing piao and acting as sound man, al simultaniously. Before HRC, my skills would've maxed out at plugging stuff in and playing.

For 2009, I'm recording an album with my band, Losers, and I'm just in the process of finding a Mellotron, string section and choir (!) to contribute to our first single, which will be released through our own netlabel. Again, I couldnt be doing this if it werent for everyone at HRC making this such an amazing reference - arguably the best in the world.

Viva la HRC, and all the best to one and all for 2009!

Yeah, it's been a bit of a crummy year. Although, I think I've managed to make the most of it. Had some rough bumps on the family side, which resulted in me moving out of the condo our parents got me and my sister, and moving into my own apartment where I'm paying roughly $560/mo, which is quite a bit more than I was paying at the condo. Maybe not the wisest move what with the economy as it is, but I needed my space, and I can honestly say I'm happier now, and have a bit more inspiration.

Work has seen its ups and downs, but it's been a good thing overall, and I'll kinda miss some of the people around here when I move to Iowa in May. Particularly our network admin, Wally. Great guy to learn from and to know, and I'm proud to call him my friend.

In the new year, I'm going to try and be better about finishing what I start music-wise, as well as try to pull in a little extra money off of my music; starting with Children of Pripyat. Of course, first thing's first...finishing and polishing it up.

Here's to a new year, and new possibilities.

Last year was a mega busy one with work and I got very little recording done. I've got another big project as this year kicks off but I should be able to get home every night instead of staying in a hotel which is nice.

Goals for the year are to get a demo album finished and either learn to sing or recruit a singer.

Hey guys, Happy new years all!

I haven't left for good, just had other priorities and a lack of time, you're not getting rid of me that easily... ha ha.

2008 was a mostly great year for me, but I had the attitude that it would be starting from November 2007. I'm not sure if I believe it or not, but people have been telling me it was my positive attitude that enabled 2008 to be good. Maybe I'm just focusing on the parts that were good, and disregarding that bad parts which makes it seem better.

Anyhow, I finished two albums (one collaborative which was finished end of march but still not released, one released and everyone seems to like it). Shot a video with some friends/collaborators which is still getting edited, but it's looking like it's going to be super dope. Been writing, and working on 3 more albums (one solo, and 2 collaborative). Quit my lame *** job and started going back to school to get an engineering degree (either mechanical or materials). So far, I'm doing well in my classes. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed at the end of the year (not unexpectedly, she lived a long and generous life). I found a girlfriend who I think is the bees knees, she has honestly brought a lot of joy into my life. The economy is going down hill, but I think it's natural, and I'm hoping this will help people change the way they look at life. Though I think it is going to be some tough medicine to swallow, I'm hopeful that America, and the world will be a better place for having gone through the trying times I think we will experience over the next couple years.

As for HRC, it seems there are not a lot of questions I know how to answer these days, or much new information for me since I've been soaking it all up for the last several years. But you guys keep bringing me back. I'm glad to see Walt posting more lately. Hopefully, in 2009 I'll be back to my devil's advocate self around here. Here's my glass in the air.

Big ups for hitting the books again and moving onward.

Wanna hear some of the new music for sure. Tuna just left today and I hope you don't mind but he Ripped the latest music from you to his lappy. He says to say wuz up by the way.

Hope to see you back around when time permits. Kinda miss the devils advocate around here. Although I think we have several now.

dB/all, 2008 was a very difficult year. First off was my separation which was a very difficult time. This was followed by my mom's diagnosis of a brain tumor and again with my uncle's diagnosis of a brain tumor as well. Jeesh! Anyhow, 2009 brings great news! I have met an awesome lady, turns out my mom doesn't have a brain tumor and my uncles surgery went exactly as planned. All is good and I look forward to a rockin' 2009!

Happy New Year to everyone on HRC, you are a great bunch!

Happy new year to all you HRC type peoples. Glad to see the back of 2008.

Well, I've got a dozen unfinished projects that I need to get on with. Did have an unfortunate PC death that lost a lot of data (I know, I know "Back up"...meh).

I've been into a restoration project for a couple of bands I used to follow/work for in the 80's. Fun stuff, and a trip down memory lane.

Personally, I didn't do too bad from the year (we won't talk about the kitchen remodel that took nine months!).
Still having problems with my daughter (17, and I just don't understand what it's like to be a teenager/Why won't I buy her a new car/iPhone/Macbook etc.). She'll come around...Stil, I miss her.

Looking forward to getting 2009 kick started and moving ahead.

I hope you all have a great year.

Oh, BH, are you going to NAMM?
I'll be there on the Saturday.

Noize, you know it's all good for Tuna to rip any of my music. It's still a trip to think of Tuna in the military, but I'm happy to hear he's doing well and enjoying it. I think you've done a great job with the boys. Much props.
