Yesterday, our GMs car started it's death-rattle on the way into work .(380,000 miles+) So, we decided to film it's demise just for fun .

The death of a 1994 Bonneville SSE...

I liked how it slowly pushes the dipstick out until the wrist-pin fell out of the bottom, and allowed another place for all that pressure to go .

Lot'sa scrap underneath, afterwards . : )

Hell, if we were able to do this every Saturday, I might be inclined to work more of them .

Wow.... I think I heard it crying a little just before it keeled. Sounded like someone poured some lead shot into the head.

That car was a taxi cab for three years before we retired it due to it's age... he drove it for another three years before today . Very seldom do we actually get to put a car out of it's misery before it up and decides to die on its own .(Usually far away from the shop, incurring a hefty tow bill.) I think the most miles we got out of one of our cabs was around 650,000... a GM-307 . Upon it's retirement, we called GM to see if they wanted to purchase the beast... the mileage seemed impressive to us . Their reply was to call them back after it reached one million miles, rather than keep the beast around for another couple of years, we sold it to some kid for a couple of hundred bucks . I'll bet that thing is still on the road !

Just would of been funnier if you had a split screen showing the underside as the rod came flying out.

Still, that was pretty funny to see the puffs of smoke roll out of it as the oil ran out of the dip stick.

I was hoping that there would be one loud cluck, and the engine just stopped dead.

Funny stuff!

That is awesome! I've always wanted to do that. I have seen the results of it everyday at my job, a speed shop/machine shop but I've never had the pleasure of being the one to cause the destruction. Thanks for that video.

BH: Any LDC will do... they're not very picky . ; )

Yeah Rob, a splitscreen would've been the way to go, but I only had one camera to work with . heh Next time I'll be ready !

And yeah Diemusic, you can tell I got a kick out if it by the laughter towards the end... I have never been close enough when an engine blows to 'appreciate' it .

Just checked the video out. Fun stuff for sure. Its even more fun when you have one tank at around 160 MPH going down the strip. Drove a buddies car to its death that way but no video in those days.

But ya, you should have pointed the camera under it after it croaked to show the parts all over.
