I flip burgers.

Which is funny because I don't actually flip them. I just put them on sandwitches.

I install security systems, home theater, CCTV, fire systems, etc., etc. Real cool for me, cuz it's different every day, I'm never in the same place twice, I see my boss about once a week, and it pays pretty well to boot. Not a bad gig!!

the most important thing in my own opinion (in starting a studio) is having a clientelle (did i spell that right?). as long as your name is out there and people know you are good. you can make $$$. thats why a lot of popular artists have their own production studio.

I am a web developer and a SysOp for an NT Server farm, though at home I do mastering and post-production work professionally.

To get started I just got the gear and put the word out...pretty basic...but work has always been coming in.

I'm a mobile hydraulic and electrical control technician. I work on anything that move's with hydraulic's and pnuematic's. Very interesting, and it doesn't hurt that I love to get my hand's dirty. I have a degree in electrical enginering, which come's in handy for side work designing and building studio's and rack system's as a side line for the studio.

In the studio, I do sound design and was doing on hold musac for a while. Also remixing and arranging of other's music. I also do final mix down for many client's who send in their track's for final mix and treatment's. I have done commercial's and movie score's, and worked with many artist's as a studio hired gun. I also have client's who come here to record in an unorthadox but relaxed setting. (dB can tell you how unorthadox it really is here) I also rebuild the occasional rack for people who don't want to rewire it themselve's. Along with audio restoration as dB does, I do mostly vinyl but get the occassional cassette. Lot's of other stuff not worth mentioning here too.

I stuff envelopes. Yes. I said it. hahah.
Doesn't exactly LEAP off my resume, but it pays for my endeavors in music.
I am a partner in a small recording studio, am a hired musician, sound engineer, and producer.
I also record a few people out of my house, which is no simple task in a 2 bedroom apartment I might add. hah.

i sell mobile phones...i like the people but hate the job - constant hastle with targets, being pushed to sell products that you know are poo etc etc - its an unethical job if you let it be

as it happens, i kinda do what i want, employ no dodgy sales techniques and sleep well at night for a medium-ish wage

Started hanging phones. "My ding-a-ling" That grew to data switching networks. Got sucked into managment (I thought I wanted that). Ran long term projects, then started building internal systems for companies like departments, and quality systems, and inventory management systems, etc. Presently building a consulting firm (see www.isdevelopment.net/ (shamefull plug) for details), and looking for part time something to fill the gaps. Spent the first thirty years making money and being a suit. Now I want to have some fun for the last twenty and give back some of what I picked up.

I've been out of school for 2 and a half years. I do marketing for a computer monitor manufacturer (AOC, Envision brands). It's kinda interesting, and pays well enough (too many hours though), but I'm looking to start my own business in the not too distant future. I'm thinking either a music venue or a record label.

I'm a full time student working on my sound engiineering degree , I also was able to build up a studio about a year ago since i came into a nice chunck of change given to me by my job that i've been doing for 5 years work for the military . I was able to come here to this site over a year ago and get the info i needed to get all the equipment and starting know how to begin a small studio , now I have a few aspiring talents , and i also work on my own stuff on the side when i have the time between school work and The Airforce sending me to far off places ( it pays the bills , and it's kinda fun) . All in all anyone can start recording and even producing all it takes is a little time , money and a lot of determination .

Hey Walt, nice site. It made me a believer. I have seen several site's like that. Most of them were absolute rubbish. You built a very convincing site.

Thank you Noise! Bow, smile. By the way something you said in another thread that fits this one. And I've heard it from Db as well. Do it large or small, do it the best you can. You never know. That just happened to me tonight. Did a demo for the group I'm with and passed out the CD's last week. Got orders for 60 tonight and one trombone player, very accomplished musician, writer, and arranger, asked me to record him. I was just taking advantage of the group to have something to work with. Out of the blue! I will dedicate my first gold or platnum to HRC!

Sincere, thank you! That is one aspect about music that is a little obscure. People are conditioned to paying for "?good?" music. It has been my experience that you can not "play" for free effectively. "Free" music is just "inferior music". Once you start "charging" for your performance, be it on an instrument or board, you are automaticly some degree of "pro". To get work or play it seems necessary to charge. That's the up side. The down side is working or playing enough, at an acceptable rate to eat well. That's the rub for me. Media music has gone the way of all other industry and is under the thumb of the bean counter. And when The Count is at the helm beans take precidence over product. My challange is to play or work at a level that I can accept. Note Coolo, from another thread, if you pray for patience, you will find yourself in a Meijers line! That's how it's delivered. Be carefull! Just stick around and tell us what you learn. That's thanks enough!

Meijers is a combo grocery / everything else mart. Like Pshcho K-mart. Their biline for years was "Your next in line at Meijers". Maybe at 3:A.M on a Sunday Morning! Shoping at Meijers is a career choice! Bring lunch, friends, a few good books, folding lawn chair, game boy, and don't forget to tell the wife not to wait up!
