NFL real season starts Thursday

Remember, players start Thursday, so get your Fantasy lineup set.

Any NFL predictions?

I predict the Vikings at about .500, not bad, not good, just existing, they should have at least 7 wins. Colts will do well again, Steelers will likely do very well, anxious to see how Tomlin fares his first year. KC, sorry TadPui, but from what I saw of them in preseason (admittedly not much) they really don't look very good. Raiders will be embarrassing...

This season it seems to be easier guessing who will suck than who will win. I don't really see any teams that will just run the table this year...not yet anyway.

My prediction:

any player who is on my fantasy roster will either bomb, get injured, get replaced, go to jail, or join the peace corps.

I'm definitely worried about KC this year but I think we'll do OK. At least we get to play the Raiders twice each year! Unfortunately we also have to play San Diego twice, and I think we'll split wins with Denver.

Archie Manning was a QB for the Saints a while back. I think Peyton is the oldest of the 3 brothers and Eli is the youngest. The middle brother was a receiver but had some sort of problem where he had to quit football in college I think.

:edit:
A little Wiki and I see that Cooper is the oldest son, with Peyton and Eli the younger two.

Cooper is often said to have been the most talented of the Mannings but he had to stop playing football when he was diagnosed with spinal stenosis.

All right, this ones for Jim.

GO Packers!

All right, now to reality. Vikes might do a little better then 500 if they can keep it together and the younger and newer players step up. But I don't see that happening this year either.

My team on the other hand, will suck in a huge way. I'll probably loose to the Goobers in the very first week. :-(

Looking at the Packers' schedule, they will lose twice to the Bears, but should split with the other two teams in their division. That puts them at 2 - 4 so far. They should beat the Redskins, Panthers and Raiders at Lambeau. That puts 'em at 5 - 4. They might pull put an upset over either the Eagles or the Chargers at Lambeau, which moves them to 6 - 5. They could possibly win in KC and Dallas, putting them at 8 - 8 at the end of the year, not making the playoffs...causing Brett Favre to come back for one more year (which he won't announce until June.)

You heard it here first!

And my fantasy team sucks! (I had the LAST frickin' pick in the draft!)

Jim, your team doesn't look much worse then mine. Well, maybe a little.

All I know is I want Donavan McNab back. He really got me some points when it counted last year until he got hurt. That toasted my season.

Isn't McNabb pretty much always hurt?

The Colts are having a pretty good game tonight...Drew Brees looks kinda pissed off on the sidelines tho.

Peyton was the top rated QB for a few years before they started winning. He's enjoying the fruits of all the work now.

My prognostication...
Colts 14-2 and Superbowl champs.

wow! it's funny to see someone 'come up' like him.....payton was a household name by his junior year where i am from, and to see him mature into a real pro is kinda neat to watch....this mofo is only 3 years younger than i am and i'm dog poo when compared to him (as far as financial success is concerned) i've been hearing his name since '99....but still, it's inspiring to watch him 'glow'.....that's how we roll! excel at what you do best, that's my philosophy.

ben r. has declared that one of his goals is to become one of the best qb's to ever play the game. i like that attitude in a qb

I have never really understood the Ben R thing, I mean, he's a decent QB, but to be the best to play the game...well, he certainly has a lot of work ahead of him, cuz I personally don't see him as even close to that caliber.

Starting out with wearing a helmet when on his bike...

Interesting, because a standard open-front motorcycle helmet may not have helped prevent a broken nose and jaw, but a football helmet might have. Hm.

a lot of people don't understand the ben r. thing, but i don't understand that. you might have had to have followed his first two seasons pretty closely to see how amazing the guy is. last season, i am thinking, was a fluke. near fatal crash, major weight loss, appendectomy right before the season started (it takes six weeks to fully recover) and some concussions last year. steelers went 2-6 at the beginning of last season, then won most of the final games. but before that, he had the best rookie start of any qb in history in terms of several stats, including a 15-1 opening season. that's pretty incredible. watch, this year, how he moves in the pocket, gets out of bad situations, and takes it upon himself to move upfield by running whenever he needs to

Oh yeah, I know his entry to the league was a total smash hit, it was great, I've watched him on and off, he's had some great players around him too...so it's not like it was all him.

That said, I think he is a good QB, I'd never deny that, it's the "one of the best to play the game" thing I think is a bit much to see him attain. I see him as definitely above average in pro football, but not elite.

i guess we'll have to see. i'm just saying that i like the attitude. and i think he might have it in him to get there--it's all about developing yourself, which hopefully he can do.

He's a physically gifted guy though. He's huge, has a very strong arm, and has a lot of confidence. Those are all key ingredients of a good QB. Best ever, that's a tall order for sure when you consider the lineage of HOF quarterbacks. He has the goods, but time will tell how he puts them to use. One thing to remember is that most of the greatest QBs had some of the best offensive linemen in front of them...

Joe Montana, Warren Moon, John Elway, Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Terry Bradshaw, Y. A. Tittle, Fran Tarkenton, Vinny Testaverde. Those are some of the best to ever take the field. They all have thrown over 200 TDs. Marino and Favre have over 400 career TDs.

If Ben is going to be listed among them, he'd best get busy.

roethlisberger in 'college play of the century'

sure, luck was involved, but pretty nice.

i'd be fine with ben throwing less touchdowns and just basically winning superbowls. that'd be fine with me! it's going to be an interesting season, though, as roethlisberger now has the ability to call protections at the line, the ability to directly alter the game plan before gametime, and the license to change the play, manning-style. also, the offense is completely revamped this year. more receivers and more passing...

weird...that 'anthem' link mentioned the handsome family, which is the only country band i've ever liked besides cash. handsome family is really unique. guy with a great baritone and a wife who writes surreal lyrics. indie-country, i guess. check out this song:

starts at 1:05. great mood, great lyrics

hahaha.

Actually, I am pretty happy with the game, lots to be happy about. Vikings QB position is sketchy, he missed a few, but he made a few too. Defense looked good, EJ Henderson has come around, Offense is decent, Adrianne Peterson is something else, man!

Overall, I am glad they won, but they only beat Joey Harrington so when can only get so excited, ya know? I mean, that guys sucks.

Yeah, I hear ya...

The Packers had no business winning their game. Their offense is pathetic. The Eagles' punt returner made two stupid mistakes that led to most of the Packers' points.

Our D held tough, though. Philly has a few decent offensive weapons, and we held them in check.

Maybe 8 - 8 isn't out of the question.

I'm a Bronco's fan and loved the end but I was confused by why they didn't spike the ball and take more time ???? The 11 players on the field could have run the spike then given the kicker plenty of time.

Any ideas ?

I watched the last few minutes of the lions game: an interception, field goal, then a smacked QB fumble, and a TD for lions.

Wow, we're not used to seeing that here in Michigan =).

Thanks for the W, Noize.

Personally, I hope if there is any doubt at all that they sit him.
Rather take a loss than lose Eli for the year.

According to Eli, he feels fine and is day to day.
The fact that he was able to put some mustard on that last TD which ocurred after the injury gives me hope that it's not all that bad.

Eli had a good game, but he isn't a good QB, I would worry much about loosing him.

Yeah, the Pats really got the smackdown from the commission today. Didn't Belichick get fined like 500k or something?

Ya know what, every team may cheat, I doubt it, but I think all profiessional sports are crooked to some degree, so I wouldn't be surprised.

That said, the Pats got caught...it ain't illegal if you don't get caught :-)

Most NFL Experts - my fav being Peter King at SI - think they got off lightly. The money isn't going to effect them and they had two #1 picks next year anyway. There's a story about how clear the rule is written and how he claims to have "misunderstood the intent". They seem to think that the punishment should have been more.

Administrator
Since: Apr 03, 2002

Sep 14, 2007 02:52 pm

I personally agree, but then, in the US feel most every punishment for everything should be at least double what it is...as the US is letting everybody off lightly for everything, which is why we have a hugely rising crime rate.

In Minneapolis in the last 24 hours there were four murders...but, that will get me into another rant completely off the topic of this thread, and you know what sticklers we are about keeping threads on topic around here :-)
