Im new to recording vocals and when I do it sounds like a cheap garage band recording.
Any help or advice would be rad, thanks!

Jul 09, 2007 01:52 pm I have the 2020, but not a toneport. I find the 2020 a good value for money allrounder. how are you recording and what process' are you using after it has been tracked?
Jul 09, 2007 02:00 pm Well, I used a pop filter that I think may have been a little too thick first of all but im gonna get a pro-quality filter soon so...
Really all I do is run my AT2020 into my toneport and select a standard studio vocal setting from the gearbox presets and route it into an audio track in sonar. I record at the right db and later ad reverb, compression, delay or whatever i think the part needs. But like most people say: 'crap in, crap out'
I've heard awesome thiings about this mic from pretty much %100 of the people who have it so Im just going to assume for now its the filter.

Jul 12, 2007 02:24 am the filter shouldn't have that much of an impact on the overall recording (unless it's made of lead that is!)
You might want to consider double tracking the vocal part, adding maybe a little chorus to thicken and give it a good dose of compression - then bake it in the mixing oven for a few days!!!
