unity....

i remember pretty vividly the days/months after 9/11, it seemed all the BS was dropped and for once the whole country (and some of the world) was united...on that same vibe, wouldn't it be cool if we got attacked by interstellar ailens? like seriously, it's kill or be killed....we would all unite and (hopefully kick ***) north korea will team up with us and we'd all launch our nukes at it together, and we'd high-five and be all "nice shot kim"...does it really take such an event to do that?

sorry, i was poopin' and thought of that and thought i'd share...the idea that is.

My thought too, great movie...it'd suck to need that kind of issue to get together though.

Sadly, in the old series "V" they hit it right on the head with one statement from the aliens...

"We have noticed humans are only at their best when things are at their worst"

Very sad that it's very true.

Yeah, thats the Will Smith one, great movie. Awesome surround sound, it was the first movie I rented in my previous home-built home theatre.

yeah, great summertime feel good movie. Not necessarily one for your inner critic, just let it go and enjoy it (and don't think too hard about it)...

On the other side of things, the cynic in me says no matter what happens, there will never be a solid unity amongst people from disparate backgrounds. But it's a nice thought though.

Yeah, just too many different vantage points to view the same things from.

"V" - wasn't that where the aliens got drunk on spoilt milk?

You know, WYD, we'd all team up and be cool, then three months later we'd have some drama and we'd be back to square one. It's cynicism, but it's based on history. Too bad.

And I thought the thread was going to be about gain staging.

ok this shows that i'm a nerd. the aleins that got drunk off of bad milk were from he show "Alien Nation". V had aliens that looked human but we lizzard type , "beastmaster" Marc Singer was one of the main people in this show.

Oh, yeah, Alien Nation, that was also where the ol' "kick in the groin" was actually what we would call a "Kidney shot"

Now was "V" where the aliens were all disguised as humans and would occasionally rip out of their human skins and expose themselves as the lizard-type beings?

Then Alien Nation...was that the one where they could only be seen by people wearing special sunglasses. Then through the same sunglasses all the billboards and magazines and advertisements changed into black and white mottos about taking over the earth? That was a creepy thought.

No, Alien Nation was the group of Aliens coming and co-habitating the planet, humaniod beings that got jobs and integrated...like it was supposed to be some clever spoof on a look at racism...

Wasn't it?

correct... the alien sunglasses one was "They Live"
www.imdb.com/title/tt0096256/

starring such talent as Rowdy Roddy Piper...

I couldn't get into Alien Nation at all... I thought War of the Worlds series was better...and that was terrible... though better than Cruise's remake of the movie.

Roddy Piper in They Live rocked. What a hero he was. B movies at their finest for that one. It actually had a plot, sort of.
