This time i guess i need your help again.

Have been thinking about this for a few days already but I really cant decide what's the best for my son.

Tried to remember what i wanted or enjoyed when i was 3 but *ooops*; they were all just blanks filled with a few dots in the middle. mustve been caused by my current workload. maybe a bike or not at all..

Maybe you guys still remember that age..

Maybe some little kid sports stuff...summer is here, something for you to do with him, play catch, hit a ball, things like that to help get that over-abundance of energy out. I started playing catch with a football with my oldest daughter a few years back, now she is 8 and I like going outside, tossing it around and just talking...

Tonka trucks / dozer / payloader, etc is good, for the outdoor, play in the dirt type.

small cars, with people to put in them.

stuff that's hard to break. building blocks are cool, if he's into building. big ones might be good for 3yo. Less to loose too, if they're bigger.

a friend just got a harmonica for his 3 yo. eesh, i don't know if i'd do that =).

hmm outdoor.. good one dB,

the bad thing is most of these days when i reached home from the office-already way past his bed time (or should i say almost his wake up time).

Maybe something that he can enjoy for himself.. thinking..

One thing my son enjoyed when he was 3 or 4 was an old cheap guitar. He loved it...

Scuba Steve!! - lol
Swing set, slide or other outdoor playground thing
Toddler swimming pool
Kid Tough digital camera www.fisher-price.com/fp.a...9&pid=37019
Or maybe even a Star Station. Now that would be cool. www.fisher-price.com/fp.a...e=starst05_sshp

Personally I'd stay away from lego and the likes only because I've stepped on a few in the middle of the night. Plus having to them up all the time is a pain.

last time I was around a three year old for any length of time he was completely enthralled with... a ball... I didn't even have to throw it... I'd just hold it and he'd hit it in the air and catch it and give it back to me to hold it...

But yep... if it says tonka it's probably right...

I'm trying to remember when I was 3... nope ...falling down our front steps and hitting my head on a cement block when I was five must have liberated me of that.

How about a cardboard box. Haven't met a kid yet that didn't like cardboard boxes :)

Good one Beerhunter! I made a 'car' out of a couple of big cardboard boxes, and cut out holes for the windshield etc. My boy will spend HOURS in there.

On that note, I'm gearing up to building my four year old a playhouse. Are you handyman Ciinx? Plenty of plans online. When he eventually grows out of it, you'll have a neat storage shed (or little studio).

One of my best friends bought my son - at age TWO - a camping axe and knife set. Real ones, with sharp blades and 'tactical' sheath. We're letting "Uncle David" look after it for him until he's older. We're off camping next weekend, so odds are it will magically appear...

At three, my son wanted a "ping bat" (aluminum baseball bat). Sports stuff is always good.

At that age i really wanted to be a coalman, i'd gather up coal bags (pillows) around the street (our house) and put the on the back of my truck (parents bed). Then redistribute them again.

That's not a lot of help but it's nice to reminisce.

How about a very small set of drums? Personally i would have loved that.

I'm down with the lego's. Or even better, they still make those linkin logs right? My nephew has those, they have tons of different parts and are fun for the whole family.

Whoa guys. Time is up for today!

Now i have a list of toys to think about. But the most that interest me out of you guys will be from (the finalists):

PJK & Zeck - Tonka trucks / dozer / payloader

Rigsby - Small Drumset (That is something! I've never thought of that before. This is worth checking out the stores.)

BH & Tallchap - Cardboard box (The Kid Tough camera and the Star Station are slightly expensive i might spoil him somewhere here, anyways my boy he's used to play with my mobile's cam.. so that might be less fun for him). lol.

Out of the game already:

dB - Kid Sports Stuff (Sorry dB but maybe next year around, I'll try to get more quality time)

JF - Etch a Sketch (Because he had one already from his mom)

Shenanigans - ESP EC-1000 (Cause I might just buy another PODxt only for him)

DungBeatle - Old cheap guitar (Just..Nope!!)

Hydria - LEGO (was fun for me but now, BH's reminder should be taken seriously- That hurts bro!)

Cheers guys. I'll let you know the results soon!! Yesssss!!!!! Should there be any late entries, who knows your luck..! Off we go!!

I still have a HUGE box of legos from when I was a kid...the hours I spent playing with those things...WOW...

Ya know though, back when I was young, if we wanted a "horse" for example, we had to build one, today, they just have a piece that looks like a horse...not nearly as much imagination is required for legos any more.

Legoland is right around the corner from our Vista CA office. Too bad my kids are too old for that sort of thing now. I would have liked to take them to it.

I read one of the Legoland parks has a 30-channel surround sound system in it's theatre...I'd like to hear THAT!

Sorry ppl. I regret for saying that. I take back everything. Look what we have become when we get older. We become SELFISH. There is nothing wrong if kids mess our homes. Those are their homes too. The more they mess up, the more creative they'll be. Better for the brain development thing I guess.

Now I have to put LEGO back on the list.

Good one Hujambo. My little one spent hours just watching the wheels go around on toy cars.

dB-Wan, you're so right about the 'special' Lego pieces. It's quite mad these days. Still, my boy does make the most amazing "F16fightingfalcon" from the standard Lego bricks. He's go NO artistic bent at all, but he can 'engineer' like anything.

ciinx: there are bigger-brick Legos for the little ones. Less likely to get embedded into your instep in the middle of the night.

I was thinking the bigger ones, the little ones are great for 7 or 8 to 10 or 11. My kids just went through them years, and my kids loved them, but they're older now, and it's not as great.

Bigger blocks, I'm thinking for young kids.

Toy guitar? Fine. Toy bass? OK. Toy piano? Maybe. Just don't get drums for a three-year-old.

Unless of course, he's somebody else's kid. Then do it with a smile and a wink.

This concludes "How to Lose Friends Quickly".

Sorry I'm late, but that is probably good.

One year, probably age 3 however, we put a package of diapers under the tree for extra filler. Theresa ran around with them all day. The toys sat.

As a grandfather I would give a drum set, just to get even with you!

My dad used to give me train sets. He would play with them. He made a huge set-up in the basement.

Baseball bats are great! Wonderfull way to redecorate!

Yeah, no matter what you give a 3 year old, he/she is probably going to find the box that it came in much more interesting.
