Got a new job

Well, after a few months of being kinda screwed over and set up by my previous employer (not entirely their fault, weird circumstances all around) I finally found a new job...still doing web development, of course, but a new role.

I found a job that is maybe a 10 minute commute, through a no-traffic side road. Rather than just development I get to work with (and in) the marketing department doing U.I. design, pushing marketing initiatives, studying analytics, and a few things they don't even know they need help with yet...but from my interview I kinda found out about.

It's a good job with a large company co-founded by a local fella. Hearth and Home is the name of it, they have many sub-brands/companies that make fireplaces, one the retails them, another that makes larger scale equipment, etc, etc...a few companies that I will be part of a three person team that manages all the corporate web site, extranets and intranets...

I'm totally stoked and got out of a job I grew to hate. Still sucks though, cuz the company was/is cool, good culture, great coworkers, etc, but when some key people left I got thrust into roles I couldn't possibly fill, and basically feel like I got set up to be a whipping boy for eventual failures...and I ain't letting that happen. I have a successful career of meeting deadlines and making quality product...I am not letting that crap screw it up.

Still, gonna miss the friends I made there...but super excited about the new opportunity.

Nice one, dB-Wan. Congrats.

I suppose in time we'll be looking at yet another re-design of HRC....Bells and whistles a-go-go.

I dunno, not exactly something to ask during an interview :-)

And no, no HRC redesign coming...too much backend work to do...you wouldn't believe how much time I have put in to HRC over the last week or two...

Do what you love and love what you do. If you are able to live that then you are ahead of the game.

I guess I don't really regret the many years I spent at a jobs I hated because it fed and housed my family.

It might have been nicer you know with different circumstances back then. But things turned out o.k. and I feel blessed.

Glad to know things turned your way!!

Congratulations man! Marketing can be fun, but sometimes you don't always concretely see the results of your work. But working with the website, you should be able to get some tangible figures. Good luck on the new start.

Well, well, well...it's been a few days on the new gig and so far it's quite cool. I have already gotten a lot done, gotten into some design, database work, SEO, analytics and more...and it's only been a week. The drive is 11 miles on the button...which is cool, I may try to bike it this summer. I already told my wife I want to buy a snowmobile and try sledding to work over the winter :-)

I think this is a place I can stay...and few downsides, some goofy legacy code/database issues, a pretty tight proxy to the net (working on building my own proxy right now) but thats not unusual.

I can have AIM once I get the app...it's not "authorized" but my boss told me to get it so.....

So far, thumbs up...still, the team of people at my last gig I'll never replace...it's a group and a culture I'll never be able to replace.

The sites I manage now (at least a few of them) are:

www.hearthnhome.com
www.fireside.com
www.heatnglo.com
www.heatilator.com

and a few others...

in case anyone gives a crap :-)

Glad to hear your liking it there so far. Sledding to work is grand. I used to when we lived in Chaska. And I did bring my sled here when we moved. I would like to get another for the same purpose again since I'm so close.

Nice looking sites as well. I'd love to convert our fireplace to gas downstairs some day.
