Hi guys,
I'm fairly new at this so bear with me please.
I can do quite good recordings on my pc and are using "Adobe Audition 2.0" at the moment. What I'd like to know, is there any software out there that can acutally "read" the keys or chords from a wave of midi track and then somehow create harmonies from the main vocal - one, two or three part?
Hope I'm not sounding too stupid.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Aug 20, 2006 06:30 pm Sorry bout the typo, I meant "read the keys or chords from a wave or mp3 track"
Aug 20, 2006 08:22 pm Well, MIDI would be easier, but I know there are hardware units that do this - the eventide harmonizer springs to mind, though I think it's actually meant for guitars. I've seen vocal processors that are supposed to auto-harmonize as well, though I can't remember the brand. I just plugged "auto harmonizer" into Yahoo, and got a million hits, but just browsing they all seem to be MIDI or hardware (or both).

this is the top end model, but may be the kind of thing you're looking for. There are cheaper ones out there.

Aug 21, 2006 09:57 am The best software that I know of for doing this is Melodyne.

Aug 21, 2006 05:11 pm I will second Melodyne as well for the software side of things. I believe there are a couple more bits out there that will do it as well.
They generally all work on either a predetermined set of harmonies or will follow midi notes fed into them for building complex harmonies.

Aug 21, 2006 07:14 pm None of the software ones I tried really worked all that well. I use the tc-helicon VoiceWorks, which is a hardware harmonizer, and has alot of other features as well. You'll spend as much for a software alternative with less features, and IMO the hardware harmonizers do a much better job.

Why not just sing the root an octave higher, then the 3rd of the chord or the 5th or the 7th?
Or are you looking for an instrumental part?
In fact I'm not even sure what we're talking about here. Sorry!

My understanding is that the V-vocal program that is included in Sonar Professional does this. V-vocal is a Roland program but I'm not sure if it's sold separately. I've only just started messing around with it... but it appears to work as advertised.

Aug 22, 2006 05:26 pm I run Sonar 5 PE, and yes V-Vocal works wonderfull for doing that. I dont honestly know if it is available as a seperate pluggin from Roland or not. I know it is not available setperately from Cakewalk. That pluggin is worth the price of Sonar 5 PE easily in my book.
I have used it frequantly with great success. It can even change gender for you, create a child like voice from a deep male voice. Or make you sing like Diva PlavalaGoona

Really? I f'ing love that scene.
Uh, oh...geek alert...
As for the harmonizing, Clone-Ensemble is pretty good for the price. It's quirky, and has some tracking issues (especially with my inconsistent voice), but it does work. Antares has some too, but hey're not cheap.

Aug 22, 2006 06:48 pm Are there any free plugs that do this semi well?

Aug 22, 2006 07:46 pm Not that I have found yet. Clone-Ensemble is shareware though and only $25, although as TallChap stated it is a little bit flaky yet. I know he has been working on it for awhile and it does get consistantly better with each release. But when burried in a mix it isnt real bad, just not as good as the more expensive ones.
Well this turned up on searching a bit. Have at it and let us know if you find anything worthy.

Aug 22, 2006 09:13 pm TallChap, indeed that is one of my favorite scenes as well. Other then Leeloo kicking some alien butt in the Divas ransacked room.

Aug 30, 2006 06:03 pm I'm with Flashman, why not just sing the harmonies. That's going to give you the best results by far. Nothing sounds more human than a human...hehehe!
