I have been playing some of my old LPs lately and forgot how much I enjoyed them until now. On a side note Has anyone seen this Player www.audioturntable.com That thing is sweet but man is it pricey!! For roughly the same amount of money I spent buying a used 2001 Mustang GT I could have bought a record player that works like a CD player.

holy crap ... if only they bothered to make it reasonably priced ($500- $1000) I'm sure it would sell like crazy... more crazy if you could scratch on it :)

Yeah thats what I said. They would sell if they could make them cheaper. Your right Zek, I would pay $500-1000 for something like that but I'm not putting a $7000 deposit just to try one!

That is a fantastic idea but WAAAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!! I can't image that thing really should cost that much.

Ya, I saw that thing in one of my audiophile mags. I do have a very large collection of vinyl and still keep a turntable around just for the the sampling purpose and the occasional playing of some of the old stuff. Most of mine is collectable stuff, valuable inother words. I dont even keep the majority of them in the house. I pay for storage in perfect conditions. With the price that some of the old stuff brings it is worth the money to have it stored. I do keep probably about 1000 albums or so in the house. And still pick up the rare piece or new collectable stuff these days. But considering my turntable is worth about $500.00 for just a standard type unit, if they can honestly play just like a needle it might be worth the price to some. I'm not shelling out $15,000.00 though for that thing. I would probably go as high as 2 grand for one but that is it. Then I could actually play some of the stuff without gettng tense about wearing them out.

But it is new tech so it will come down drasticlly in price in the next year or two.

Hey Noize what type of stuff are you collecting? I'm not a collector but I do enjoy records. I inherited a somewhat large collection around 400 or 500 from my father a few years ago. My player is nothing high end either but it is a pretty cool mechanical one, JVC L-E5.

Just about anything you can think of really. I have a collection of old 78's as well as tons of regular LP and 45's. Lots of rare and import stuff. I used to use a lot of old jazz recordings for smapling from for their antiquated sounds. But I still collect the odd rare and minimum print quantity type stuff, especially some of the 12" stuff. Tuna and I just picked up a 7" of Perfect Circle #2 of 100 ptinted. And with that we also found a limited printing heavy weight vinyl import of Rancid's Out come the Wolf's. Its a picture disc and has allready increased in value by about $75.00 since we got it 5 months ago.

And ya, I love the sound of the vinyl. I just wish it wasnt so time consuming to record it all and put it on CD.

I have around 100 LP's and a some 45's but I haven't played any of them in years. I still have my turntable but I think it needs a new cartridge & needle. I do miss the sound of vinyl though especially when listening to Beatles and other 60's/70's artists. The mastering on most of the CD's of those periods sucks as far as I'm concerned and isn't any where near as good as the LP IMO. I'd honestly rather listen to cassette tapes than the CD's.

Hey Noize, did that Rancid picture disc really increase in value that much? I've got the whole set of those picture discs... I'm probably sitting on some cash. Haha.

I have a bunch of records... probably nothing to insanely valuable although I DO have original pressings of The Clash's s/t and London Calling. The other day at work (I work for a junk removal company) I picked up the Beach Boys' Endless Summer, Michael Jackson's Thriller, and a 45 of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince - Parents Just Don't Understand.

Johnny, yes it did. But it is an import that is pressed on heavier vinyl then where normally available on the US printing. But even the US printing Pic Disc will increase n value. Especially if you have the entire set! The viynl I look for are usually either rare or limited printings. You can also find stuff that is first prressing as well. Sometimes best located by the hand etched serial numbers on the vinyl. I have the Clash London Calling as well on a disc that is called a Master Series which is again the heavy vinyl and the regular pressing as well. The original pressings are worth more then re-released stuff indeed when it comes to collecting them

OD, I'm with you on the cassette thing as well. I can do a pretty good job bringing vinyl to CD but it still just is missing that certain something.

OH ya, the noisy parts of analog machinery. :-)

I don't know that it's all noise, but yeah, it does fill out the old recordings nicely. :D

I have about 1000 LPs and maybe 300 singles, i prefer the sound of vinyl to CD as well. I look forward to the day when i can finally hear my own stuff on vinyl, even if i have to pay for the pressing myself.

There are still about 3 or 4 tiny underground place here in MN that will do any number of pressings, or just the one cutting if your just after the master. The one house deals with a lot of DJ's so they are used to running one off's. They have moved since the last time I used them and I haven't located them yet. But it was the same place we used to do our very first single on 45 many moons ago.

That would be too cool. Come to think of it, I think I have seen ads in the back of Tape Op for vinyl pressings. Lol now I'm tempted to do an albums worth of stuff just to put it on a record. :)

Yep, there are always several adds in Tape-Op for vinyl pressings.
