Another quickie - The Morning Dose

This "1 week" project ended up spannnig 2 weeks. But that was mostly arrangement, not recording, so I still consider it a quickie. A quickie would mean that I didn't strive for the perfect take...I just got it close enough and moved on.

I could name flaws on every track in this mix, but it was done with the intention of being a scratch track. The most notable is the out of tune bass...which I'm hoping to retrack tonight.

I've just been trying to play with all of the new toys in Cubase. I made use of reverbs, delay, some EQ experiments, some panning ideas, all in an attempt to get several guitar parts to cooperate in the mix. It still gets pretty muddy at the end tho. Still learning...

I've even still got another vocal line to sing over the refrain but it was getting too busy...it would have made it even muddier.

But enough excuses, here's the song!

Tad, nice work man!

The acoustic guitar sounds cool and when the heavier electric comes in, it sounds just right on the button for ma money.

Nice lead part too...sounds a bit delayed which works cool.

In fact, the whole build up sounds good to my ears then it hits the bigger ending with all parts kicking on together...hard do describe as a genre but its cool my man!

Keep up the good work

P.S. bass must be low int he mix as Icant hear the outa tune stuff ;-) !!

Cheers

Coco.

Hey thanks for the listen Coco!

I have a bit of trouble mixing the bass because in my headphones, the bass response is weak so I turn it up too much. Then when I finish mixing in my speakers, the subwoofer makes the bass too strong so I turn it down. I'm still trying to find that happy medium :)

Learning your moniter system can be a long process.

I had to listen a bit on the quiet side tonight but will give it a better go tommorrow. For a scratch track, it sure sound good. I will have more comments tommorrow, but I definately liked it.

Nice one again. I thnk the bass is a little too strong for the song, predominantly at the start. Like the Gtrs nice distortion. nice panning on the accoustics.

This is really lovely... I like your voice, the guitars are great. I think you have a nice mix on the guitars right now. Maybe gets a little muddy at the end but I kind-of like that wall-of-sound. Nice and moody piece.

Hey thanks for the comments. I'm going to address the bass issues soon and see if I can't find somehting that fits better, plus hammer out all of the mistakes.

Geez Tad, youre gifted. I mean really- this is much like the stuff ive dun lately in concept- but man you blow me away. this kind of sound i aspire to.

I guess its always better to play chess with someone better than you, thats what i do here.

I must say the best complimament you ever gave me was recording one of my tunes a while back. by the sea. ever finish?

great, id buy a whole album of that

btw- a buddie of mine sent me a Zack Wylde acoustic cd. Book of shadows. if you dont have it, get it.

This is a really cool track Tad! I really like that riff you have going thru the song, I'd never be able to play that all the way thru without a mistake. <G> The vocals seem to get drowned out in places especially close to the end but other than that the mix sounds pretty good to me. Nice tone on the guitars. Really enjoyed the listen!!

Very Cool!!!

I really like the song and the arrangement. The only thing I could say is that I would prefer that the ending fades out with those outro licks rather than the ending chord and the sustaining/feedbacked guitars.
Just my 2 cents.

Great, great title. The acoustic intro with the electric lead sounded spot on and that guitar line was killer. I might have been tempted to get back to that at some point. For me, the build up to the really busy end was a touch predictable but enjoyed the listen a few times...
