I've been playing guitar since I was 9, but I'll happily admit that I'm a hack. I should be much better for playing as long as I have, but I truly enjoy it. The days of playing in bands and playing duo or solo gigs at open mic nights are behind me, and now I play in my living room to amuse myself.
About three years ago I bought what was then the entry level copy of Cubase (Cubase SL), an M-Audio Duo and a cheap Rode condenser. I thought I'd be on my way -- no such luck. The drivers wouldn't install and Cubase wouldn't recognize the Duo and the whole process just irritated me. I put the stuff in the closet and didn't dig it out until last week. I figured I'd give it one more shot, and somehow I got it to work. So now I'm using antiquated software on an equally antiquated computer and it's sputtering along nicely. This is the most fun I've had in years and it makes me want to play all the time.
