Attempts for Contemporary

I need to write something a little more contemporary than my usual fare. Needs to be grungy, even punkish for a female vocalist. I've placed two very short (1 min or less) examples at soundclick, would appreciate your opinions. These are just repeated 4 bar riffs. Am I going in the right direction?

See Example 1 and Example 2...

Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Now all ya need is some shreddin guitar in their. Some heavey metal type guitar work would do those tunes wonders. I like em though for sure. Cant wiat to hear where you go with these.

Still very dramatic sounding as well. I think adding some guitar and vocals especially female vocals would sound great in those tunes. The progresions sound like they leave a lot of room for going differant directions.

I'm gonna try some other stuff, maybe a more classically oriented mixture. I do need some shred, I know. I have no idea where I'm going. "This is crazy, crazy..."

Definately not crazy. It is just a common thing. I have been down this road way to many times. To this day I still find myself changing my mind on the direction of something midway through it. Some tunes may change directino 10 times before I finish with it. So it definately isnt crazy to have that happen. Some folks drive one straight line, others like me tend to ver off the road and really dont have any idea of were they will end up. Just drive untill ya get there, where ever there is.

I figure I'll wander for awhile. I keep coming back to trippy, semi-ambient weird stuff. So who knows? Trip Grunge! We'll see. Thanks!

I think it's a great start for some 80's style rock. I'd really like to hear you develop these into full on songs, I think they'd be great!
