Hi there. Just been offered the - M Audiosport Quattro USB 4in-/4-out audio interface - as a substitute for the pci soundcard I was going to buy.
I have read a review though that says the USB port struggles to handle the volume of data that recording 4 tracks simultaneously puts through it.
But other reviews just rave about it.
Does anyone have any experience / advice about it?
thanks

Dec 21, 2005 06:19 am I guess it would depend on whether is is usb 1.0 or usb 2.0 compatible. Usb 2.0 is pretty fast and should be able to handle 4 ins... I think...?
Dec 21, 2005 06:33 am Well, 4 tracks isn't saying 4 ins, the sound has to come out somewhere too...so if it's 4 ins and then 2 outs, well...thats 6 tracks.
Yes, USB does have some serious bandwidth issues, but as dragonorchild says, USB has substantially greater bandwidth...far less of a problem.
Personally, I would have stuck with a PCI card...

Dec 22, 2005 01:06 am yeah, I just liked the idea that this way I can also just grab it and take it to a friends house, wack it into his USB and use it there too (once installed).
In fact if the speed / quality is good, the idea I think is excellent.
The only issue is - is the speed / quality good? damn these mixed reviews! though the bad review was by a guy with a laptop and I'm PC based, I might have to buy it and if it's not up to the job, sell it again...
