I am currently giving guitar lessons to a girl who is a huge Slipknot fan. She wants to learn how to play some of their songs. I must admit to never having heard their music before.
Can anyone recommend a few of their songs that could be adapted for easy guitar? I'm thinking mostly power chords, and maybe a few simple riffs. Also, she's only fourteen, so I would prefer if the songs were somewhat age-appropriate (if that's even possible these days...)
Thanks!!

Nov 18, 2005 08:32 pm Jim, try Vermilion part 1 and 2, Part 2 is actually an acoustic version, from their newer disc. My Plague, Liberate, Pulse of the Maggots is a good one for power chords and also off the newer album. Snap, if you need it as its hard to find let me know and I can arrange to get you a bit of it. Wait and Bleed is another good one for straight ahead chord and riffing, its one of my favorites. The Blister Exists, and Before I Forget also from the newer disc called Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses). The newer disc is void of any swearing at all. And actually the entire disc would be OK.
Tuna said he would go through their catalog and make a list if you would like. At 14 I am guessing whe would mostly be familier with Duality and Subliminal Verses.
Nov 18, 2005 09:38 pm I think there is a tabulature book out there called "Slipknot for Cheeseheads" :-p
Sorry, rivalry weekend, had to take the cheap shot

Nov 18, 2005 11:47 pm Nice dB, really nice. I wish I woulda thought of that when I posted.
Nov 19, 2005 08:24 am You guys crack me up!! :-)
Thanks, Noize, for the suggestions. Those are some great song titles...are you sure you're not confusing Slipknot with Spinal Tap?!?!?!?!
Hey, they got a great big fishing charter waiting for the boys in Purple out on Lake Michigan...complete with strippers and ho's and everything!
Nov 19, 2005 10:22 am db dont you like both the packers and the vikes? as i slowly become more conscious of football, i understand now that these are two division rivals, so your perspective seems interesting. i cant imaging liking the browns and the steelers. no one can. those fans hate each other! you must have a big heart or somethin'.
ah sorry man this thread is about slipknot.
Nov 19, 2005 10:26 am Well, yes, actually, I am a fan of both, but my loyalties always fall with the Vikings. I go with the Packers for every game EXCEPT when they play the Vikings. I often get crap from people on both sides for my position...but I don't think you have to hate one in order to be a fan of the other.
Bottom line for me is that really, I am just a fan of the sport, and my home town team, even if they are irresponsible, perverted, uncaring jackasses. It's not the players, it's the hometown team, ya know?
Nov 19, 2005 11:10 am I'm with dB on this...it looks favorable for your whole division if rivals to do well against other teams. I like to see the Vikings, Bears and Lions do well against other teams, because then it makes the Packers look that much better when they kick their butts. OK, except maybe for this year...:-(
This year our whole division is a big joke. (Actually, the whole NFC sucks!)
Go Colts!
Jim
Sorry for the thread hijack, but it is MY thread! So, any more Slipknot fans out there?

Nov 19, 2005 11:16 am Hey Jim, no those are Slipknot tune's. :-) The do have names remaniscent of Spinal Tap though. Tuna said there should be plenty of Tab out there, especially for Duality and The Subliminal Verse's. If you have trouble finding them let me know and I can have Tuna post were he saw them.
Go Vike's!
Good luck Packers?
Aw, its only a game... You're gonna need it.

Nov 21, 2005 10:22 am If you can find some old back-issues of "Guitar World" they have all sorts of TAB for Slipnot. They may even have some of their "private lessons" columns for them. They're one of the magazine's favourites. Press-Darlings, if you will.
Nov 21, 2005 12:47 pm yeah learning a Slipnot song is gonna be hard.....i'd start with some of the hooks and breaks from a few of their songs, instead of learning a whole song from start to end....there's alotta time changes and start/stop type riffs....most well over 150bpm.....there's a kick arse power chord riff on the chorus of "People=Poop" (substitute poop with ****).....that song kicks my arse EVERY time i hear it, and i'm no fan, but these guys get my respect.
cheers
