Coco (from Scotland) and, I take it, the Edinburgh area, possibly Tall Chap? Would you kind people be able to direct me to the best resource to find my great-great grandfather's records in Scotland? Coldingham, Berwickshire around 1858 marraige (we think). Born? 1820-30. It's a long, sad, Scottish story of true love, death & how I came to be...

No too sure buddy..I never really got into the family roots stuff but there is a central records storage place in Edinburgh you could try first...

www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/contacts/

This is the Register House in Edinburgh where lots of records are stored...alas, it would be a good place to start and at least, start your trail. I know you can access their archives online for a fee so you dont need to physically go there (which is handy) but other than that my friend, I dont know too much!

Good luck to ye.

Coco.

The Scottish side of my family (from my Paternal Grandmother back), is all a bit of mystery - owing to my great-Grandmother never letting the truth get in the way of a good story.

Coco's suggestion is sound, although those places are somewhat wrapped up in red tape, and fees. No refunds if you hit the wrong thread.....

There's a cool website that allows you to put together your own family tree, and then access other people's trees to share information. There's a small fee, but it's a one time (yearly thing - much like HRC - hint, hint... :)...). The name escapes me for now, but I'll try and find it and post it here. Very cool site. The genealogy community is actually quite cool, as everyone seems to be working toward a common goal (much like HRC...).

I appreciate it, gentlemen. My grandmother was always one for a good story, also, and never let the truth get in her way... Thanks, again.

hehehehe, I am sure we all have one or two of those in our family...I have a "family tree" that dates back to 692 AD...an interesting read, actually, but how much truth is in it I dunno, may grandpa gave it to me and kinda chuckled saying that he assumed it was written out while drinking wine...
