I just can't seem to write deep lyrics... most things I write end up sounding dumb. Any sugestions?

Ya, quit caring...tell me any of the Beatles lyrics were "deep" they were non-sensical pop of the time...

Lyrics don't have to mean anything...

At least that is my thought...

i'm a bit of a poet every now and then.

i read awhile back that Trent Reznor of NIN got most of his lyrics for Pretty Hate Machine from personal journals and random scribblings of thoughts as they came to him.

I try to keep a pen and a pad near me whereever I go to jot down my thoughts or maybe just some relevant rhyme. I've compiled my notes into a .txt file here on my workstation at home. Several pages of potental lyrics. Everything from deep observations and moody poetry to hostile seriousness and a few hilarious raps. Someday it'll come in handy. :O) -j

Just don't stop writing. Writing decent lyrics, like everything else, Requires practice. Just keep a journal of all your lyrics in it. Take parts of other lyrics and put them into new projects... and don't try to be deep, just write what you feel.

As much as possible i write every little snipit down. just a little line here or there that comes into my head. bar napkin-verses post it note song titles ect. then sometimes throw a bunch of those together, then say hmmmm, that now reads like real song about this or that.

Uh..sorry dB Masters...."Yesterday"?..." Imagine"?...
Lyrics don't HAVE to mean anything but sometimes er many times it helps if they do.I guess it all depends on the type of music you're writing. It's harder for me to think of a 'great song' that has lousy lyrics than it is to think of one with good lyrics. To me,lyrics are important.Keep workin on em!

oh, sure, there were some deep ones, there was also "I wanna hold your hand" and "baby you can drive my car"...not to mention "I am the walrus", trite, goofy or just plain weird...I didn't say, or imply to say they couldn't, just many times they didn't...

I tell you what, let's be honest with eachother. A good singer can sing you the front page from the morning news and make it sound like an insight into humanity. Inflection, Enunciation and Emotion are key to vocals. As far as writing lyrics goes try a few excercises.
Try writing a mock up of your favorite song by filling in the vocal parts with your own lyrics.

Sit down with a dictionary and find words that have the same phrasing or same amount of sylables and link them together.

Try writing in a different style such as Rap or Opera or even Blues.

Write down things that people say that catch your attention or sound, odd to you. Common sayings or proverbs.

Make it a point to write everyday, keep a journal.

Bwahahahaha. Do yourself a favor and uninstall FrontPage, put it back in the box, put it the garbage can where it belongs. That is quite probably the single worst web development application in existance.

If you want a decent FREE web development program that is similar to FrontPage, the main difference being that this one actually works, go to www.evrsoft.com/ and download FirstPage 2000.
