Wow, I reviewed a Variax 300, sounded great, cool models, as I said in my reivew, but it played kinda poor...I just checked out and got a Variax 700...jeezuz, the different is unbelievable...the electronic are all the same and all that, but the playability of the guitar and quality of the construction is great. Quite a nice instrument.

Aug 27, 2005 11:02 am lots of riffin going on this weekend then huh?
Sep 06, 2005 08:18 am Wow, this weekend I finally got around to changing the strings...as I said in my review, the Variax (and many guitars) ship with pretty heavy strings...I changed them out, put some 9's on it and just sat outside with some beers and jammed all weekend...it plays unbelievably awesome with the lighter strings. Sounds great through my little cigarette box amplifier...
My Washburn A10 that just got the neck reworked and the Q-Tuner pickups put in it just got demoted to my second guitar, hell, it might be getting demoted to eBay...I am absolutely, positively floored by the 700. Great guitar.
And man, my fingertips are roughed up, I haven't played guitar that much over a 2-3 day period in a long time...

Sep 14, 2005 02:06 pm Hey dB-Wan, how is that "Smokey" amp? I've been eyeing them lately ($27..woohoo...'er indoors will never know!!!). I understand it'll push a 4 x 12 (or 4 x 10 in my case), although at the expense of batteries.
How does it sound through a cabinet?
1 watt is about where I wanna be on amplification - and I want to get some air between a speaker and a mic (rather than direct/modeller). My other amps are too big...turning them down does not make good sounds.
Your sage wisdom would be appreciated.
Is it just a "toy"?
Sep 14, 2005 02:09 pm It's a great little amp and yes it will push a 4x12. It's a toy for me, but people do use it recording...I just use it to sit on my patio while the kids play outside...

Sep 14, 2005 03:48 pm I've really been thinking about getting one of these, but have been to lazy to drive 60 miles to go check one out. Sure have my curiosity piqued though. :D

Sep 24, 2005 07:39 pm I bought one for Tuna last year and love it. Of coarse I use it more then he does, but it works great as dB said for a little practice amp. Not quite as good as my Pignose but a bit more convieniant.
