Cubase SX and Tascam FW1884 problem

Alright here's my problem. It s alittle confusing to me because I've never experienced something like this. At least not with my current configuration.

So I'm recording some parts in Cubase and when I go to hit the stop button on the Tascam, all hell breaks loose. The record, stop and play button light up all at the same time, the sound gets all crazy (my best description) , and Cubase gets an illegal oepration error and closes. Turns out I lose all that I had just recorded too.

Sometimes I'll be recording and I get a blue screen and the hole thing just stops. Not sure why I get two different types of crashes but I do. I have contacted technical support on this issue but they are never there and they don't have a voicemail. I am really starting to get PO'd cause I am in a position where I could potentially make some money at this so I need to get this taken care of. I hope its just a problem with my PC. Tnanks for any help.

I assume it's an issue with the PC, not the control surface. It seems there is a prob with your control surface/PC link. Starting at the most basic level for troubleshooting I would suggest you go to Steinberg's web site and Tascam's web site and make sure you have the most recent updates for all applications and device drivers involved. Also, possibly any new device drivers for your firewire controller.

It appears that this PC is for the studio only, correct? So no unusual software is on it such as games, accounting software and all that kind of stuff...is it on the internet? Have you scanned for virus' and/or spyware? If not, that would be another good place to start.

My computer is isolated from anything I can think of. I am running some video apps but haven't had a problem with them before this. It seems as if this started when I upgraded to Cubase SX 3. I have all the lateest patches for everything. I read through all the support forums and didn't really find anything.

Look in your Cubase SX manual (on the CD) under troubleshooting (probably a separate "book") and there should be something in there. Someone in the Cubase forums had a similar problem the other day. Seems to me that the solution was rather simple. Did you do a search in the Cubase forums? Wish I could remember what my search terms were when I found that, but I was searching for something related to WaveLab when I hit it for Cubase...

I'm getting a bad feeling about this one. Looks like some sort of memory leak either in Cubase or some other application that is running while I am recording. Hopefully the latest patch to Cubase (due out in August) will fix it otherwise I am screwed.
