I haven’t been that interested in being in bands for some years now. It’s all the political sh**, and petty bickering that puts me off. Don’t get me wrong, I love playing as much as the next man/woman, but all that “I don’t like the drummer’s girlfriend’s trousers” rubbish seriously pisses me off. However, I had a little flash of inspiration, and I though I’d share it with my friends here to get some input. Let me know if you think this is a good idea:

Concept: Songs from the glam/rock era.
No one would need to dress up in platform soles, and glitter (unless they really, really wanted to) – I’m past all that dressing up stuff.
I’d like to present a solid band playing the “cool” songs that everyone knows and (hopefully loves) from that era – Ziggy/Aladdin Sane era Bowie; Mott The Hoople; T-Rex; The Sweet; Sensational Alex Harvey Band; Steve Harley and the Cockney Rebel; Slade; The Sweet; Eno/801; Roxy Music, etc.

Think it would work? This really fires me up to play again.

I will say this...I got out of, and plan to stay out of the band thing for the EXACT same reasons as you.

That said, part of what makes some bands successful, esspecially cover bands with a nitch (such as era or genre nitches) is selling the era as well, involving the dressing up and full show...not saying it wouldn't work though, just a thought. You're not selling music, you're selling entertainment.

agreed! i find i work better alone, someday i'd like to consider myself an electronic 'composer' of sorts (think BT, but different)...

i'd say scope out the market, find atleast 2 places ya think you can play that stuff, and ask people around if they'd check it out. IF ya plan on playin' out.....otherwise, find some good session musicians and record it....or both if it takes off! hehe
