ok i was content on letting sonar handle all of my audio needs, but uppon further consideration (and reading on other progs) it seems i need a few more tools to cover my arse. for example if someone wanted me to "clean up" an old cassette tape recording, i wouldn't have any clue how to do it. i have no noize reduction tools or anything of the like...iv'e beenn using Wavelab for all of my two track mastering needs, and now it looks like i need to look into soundforge or audition, for a few tools that my current setup dosn't have....i wanna be ready to tackle any potential clients needs....so apart from DAWs and sequencers, what are some other tools that you consider "necessary"?

I do all my audio restoration (which I have done A LOT OF) in WaveLab with NR plugins. I prefer some older ones from Sonic Foundry, but since selling their apps to SOny I am not sure what happened to them, but they ROCK at NR.

There is also things like www.dartpro.com and www.tracertek.com/noise.htm

uhmm you should have those tools in wavelab if not it wouldn't be praised as such a great editor but heck if it doesn't audition or soundforge will I personaly reccomend audition.
yes but either than a sequncer an editor like audition,a mastering "lab" like ozone, waveplugins and such,if you sample a loop/sample editior such as recycle, wave surgeon, or phatmatik pro, various effect plugins thats about it i would imagine.

WaveLab does not come with NR tools. At least as not of version 4, and I don't recall hearing it mentioned for version 5.

WYD, download Auditions free trial, and give it a try. It's fully functional for 30 days. AA has some of the best noise reduction tools around.

Am I wrong or NR plugins are just EQ presets?

Very wrong Bruno. At least with the Sonic Foundry plugs they are very intelligent plugs that can "listen" to noise if you have a sample of just the noise and learn it's sonic-print, then go on a seek and destroy mission with various sensitivity parameters. They are actually very impressive and fun to work with. Some things, like pop and tick removers are essentially EQ's though as the pops and ticks are more predictable noises.
