Panning Bass Guitar

Hello!
I was just wondering out of curiosity, how everyone usually pans the bass guitar in a mix? I usually pan it center but recently I`ve been moving it around a bit and getting some great results.

depending on the style of music....i usually go strait up the middle, but if it were say a jazz trio, i'd put it off to the side some...but for most rock and pop stuff, center works fine.

Keeping the bass center is best IMO. Bass needs the reinforcement from both channels, plus on headphones bass being pronounced on one channel can be very fatiquing to the ear. A very slight pan for example to balance a mix or as WYD says is for certain types of music is okay, but normally front & center. :)

not me, while sometimes I have it center, not generally, but never too far off either. I use bass often to balance the mix, and in three piece band situations bass centered can be very out of balance. I move it where the mix dictates.

Center, always. If I ever hear something that makes me think it would sound better panned then I'll try it. Haven't heard it yet though. Some love it, some hate it, some just don't care... if it works for you I guess that's all that really matters.

Just wanted to pitch in here as a vinyl person that with anything you pan bass-wise will usually have to be centred for vinyl mastering, which means making your beautiful stereo mix practically mono. Bummer, so best be careful, i don't know, maybe vinyl isn't a concern round here.

My record burner just broke down last week :-D

Would that be an LP-R? hehehehehehe

If anybody here has Photoshop, I'd love to see an artist's rendition of an LP-R burner on a modern PC

Rip me an LP, please!

Current project:
Bass = Right 17.

Works fine in this application.

Might not work at all on another song...
