It has been decided that I'm getting an Senn. ME66/K6 shotgun mic to play with on the movie this winter...and one of the other producers is paying for it :)

We also picked up out first lights today..a 500watt scoop light (gloified heat lamp) and ordered two more. Par lights I pick up tomarrow :) Camera studio adapter came in last week off ebay and tested out good...

gee it's nice to actually have proper video equipment :)

Looks pretty good. The jewish doll from new york on the bibletime show was great :)

We're working on our first feature and we start shooting Jan. 8th and hope to be done editing by June, with a release later that year... depending how soon we get denied by sundance :)

We'll probably put a site together after we get some footage on the 8th so people can see how we're doing.

Right now we're having problems with a title :P

If you think about it. Post here after you get a chance to use that shotgun mic. We have an AudioTechnica shotgun that sounds ok but on most of the small sets I just use my Rode NT1A into a preamp an then straight into the camera. That sounds great.

actually about the soundtrack.... :) I was going to post another thread for it before the end of the year...as I'm still intoducing the other producers to the wonderful world of indie music.

We are funding it ourselves... and it's DV (30i ...so uhh... made for TV :) ). I'm an ebay gear freak so we're building a direct to hard disk studio rig out of basically a BetaSP camera (Panasonic WV-F250), an analoge to firewire converter (Datavideo DAC10 hopefully), and a ibook G4. We're still sinking about 3grand into preproduction and production... printing the script for the actors was almost $300. :P After we start shooting most of our fundraising will be for manufacturing and promotion...probably another 5 grand :/

I was thinking about useing my NT1's but we have an awful lot of locations...about 30... and only about 5 would be in a controlable enviroment. But yeah, shotguns tend to not do small rooms well. We have one small bathroom we need but we also have some outside and a huge college classroom. I actually chose the ME66 because the specs are only a little worse than the NT1.

Title we're still working on... as we're trying to keep it simple, catchy, and somewhat origional... "A Better Place" is first on the list but there was an indie movie still for sale at amazon released in 1995... "The Other Side" was another, but a movie is listed on imdb.com as being released next year with the same title. :P

It's a dramatic comedy about those little instances in life where you can see your future and can either choose to accept what you see or ignore it. The 4 main characters are dependent on something, alcohol, girlfriend, hate for a parent, running away. Each of these dependencies holds them back from a happier future and we try to show their realization of that fact.

The Update:

New title: "Invisible Bridges" (will be www.Invisible-Bridges.com )

No DAC-10 4:2:2 video (Digital-S, Digital Beta)... going with DAC-100 4:1:1 video (DVCAM,DVCPRO)

Then The Adventure:

We start shooting Sunday (Jan 9th) and the last thing we ordered last week was an ME66K6 mic from BHphotovideo.com ... it was supposed to be delivered today (Jan 6th)... but instead my co-producer got a call from B&H saying that they hadn't shipped it yet. Her address is a P.O. Box... and for some reason they needed to cancel the entire order and resubmit it to change her address... and for some reason they didn't catch this until the day it was _SUPPOSED TO BE DELIVERED_!!!

Well. it just happens shes also a recient victim of identity theft and the card was turned off so nothing can be charged to it. Then the B&H reps accuses her of being the criminal, yells at her, and hangs up. This same process is repeated a couple of times with the same B&H rep... then she calls the bank, the bank teller says the charge has already been processed and that B&H would have to refund the money...which will only take 6 weeks or so...

She calls B&H again and gets a manager who then has to call the bank to verify her identity... so now they'll let it ship... but we need it before sunday... the B&H manager solution was for her to pay for next day shipping... he later suggests to split the cost of shipping.

I'm betting that they ship it 3 day and it arrives monday or later.

If it doesn't arrive tomarrow I will test my Rode NT1's and then we will decide if to delay. :P

I think I trust Ebay more...

Well the mic showed up on time and we started the shoot sunday morning. Everything went fairly well though we only got 1 of the two scenes we wanted to cover... mostly to first shoot confusion. After about 2pm everything picked up and went really well.

Now we are working on lining up a place to do a test projection to see how it looks 20 feet across :) My biggest worry is that it seems to be a bit dark... though the black and white viewfinder seemed good. but for video we think it looked an awful lot like high grade 8mm or slightly under exposed 16mm which we really liked. So if it projects too dark we buy more lights and do it again.
