Songs recorded. Now what?

I have a song thats recorded now. Its a total of 8 tracks. A guy that owns a studio wants to hear it and I need to burn it onto a CD to give him tomorrow.

Does anybody know how I can get it onto a CD? I would guess that I need to do a mixdown now, but I don`t know how to do it. I`m using Cubase. My PC has a CD Burner on it.

I'm not real firmiliar with Cubase, but there should be an export function, probably under the file menu. All you have to do is select all the tracks you want to export and export as one stereo 16 bit wav with all the effects and track settings on. Then you just select the wav in your CD burning software and it should work fine. If not, I'm sure there's something about mixdown or "preparing for distribution" or something in the help files or your instruction manual. Hope this helps.

I would go to your help files, click on the search tab, then search for mixdown or export.

Hopefully in the process of doing all that you converted the song into mp3. If not do so now. there are many free wav to mp3 converters. then goto www.nowhereradio.com. you can upload 15 meg of songs. they even give you your own link. Mine is the above addrs with a /tonyd1970 on the end. Then the whole world can hear your stuff. and its FREE baby. Hmmmmmm......FREEEEEE....

Well, it doesn't seem like you'd want to convert to MP3 if you were just burning it to a CD like he says he wants to do.

Hope it turned out well for you! Sorry wasn't around in time. Just in case....

Be sure all tracks are at the volumes you want. All of the effects, eq, etc. are just the way you like them. Ensure that the start and end flags are at the begining and end of the song. The mix down will only be between the flags. When all is ready press the export control on the main mixer. Be sure you are mixing down to 44.1 and 16 bit. Go ahead and let cubase import the mixdown into the Audio Pool. After the mix down go to the audio pool and do a normalize on the mixed down track. Now you are ready to burn it to a CD. This should give you a good mixdown which is playable on a cd player. Save all of your origional files! You may want to master it later!

Well, I set all the volumes to where I wanted them and how they sounded the best, then I mixed it down and burnt it. When I went to play it ona regular stereo, it sounded like absolute crap. I don`t have studio monitors, so the only way I can get it to sound how I want it is through trial and error using a CD for every mix.

So far I`ve used about 5 CDs. I think the next one or two will get it for me. I really need some monitors. Oh well.

actually mitch thats a great way to learn to mix and to begin to get a feel for what's you're hearing. i plan to do exactly that when i begin mixing down some projects i'm working on. i'll purposeless submit myself to repeated torturous CD burnings until it come's out right on my car stereo (the only system i really *know* because i've listened to all my favorite CDs on it a million times)

Oh yeah... I know what you mean. I hate how it sounds so good on the computer and so bad on a stereo-- and then there are some other stereos where it sounds great! Well, although monitors help, I still have problems with that. One of the things is you have to make sure that the volume on your wav file is normalized and as loud as you can safely make it. It really makes stuff sound better when it's louder!

Dig out some of your favorite tracks from bands you wish to sound like and extract them to your hard drive and go off them as a quide mix.

Also, get a plugin called "FreeFilter" from Steinberg and just take the mastering profile from the song and apply it to yours.

Free Filter will actually take a "Sonic Fingerprint" (for lack of a better term) from your favorite bands music, remember it, and apply that same EQ curve and such to your music. It's pretty cool, get a good solo kick drum sample from a LedZep album and apply it to your kick drum track in your song and you have Bonzo's kick drum!

Not exactly ethical, but wicked-cool just the same.

it's not "Free"! such a cool EQ plug, I was kinda disappointed it wasn't as free as it's name suggested. I downloaded the free demo and the audio cuts out every couple seconds. to top it off Steinberg nolonger sells this thing :OP anybody know of any other EQ/Filter type plugs that can do this kinda effect?? -j

They don't sell it anymore?!??! Whoa, glad I got mine then, I don't use it often anymore, but I used to. And no, it was far from free, but it is (er, was) super cool. I never had a dropout or anything with it...must be an operator malfunction ;-)
