Hi, I am a drummer in a band up here in Canada
and am building a hobby studio here in my basement. I need to buy a soundcard interface
to record into my PC with.I was wondering if you folks could help me out with my decision based on what equipment I currently have. So far I am using....

PC computer w/
AMD Duron 800 mhz
512 meg pc-133 ram
46 gig HD
SB live value <---- about to be replaced
Sonar Xl 2.0
I dont have firewire or SCSI

Samson 16 channel mixer MPL 1640

Numerous mics/drum mics

What I want to do is record drums/bass/rhythym guitar at the same time.I would be using 6 channels for the drums,1 channel for bass DI,and
1 channel for the r. guitar DI. Keep the drum and bass tracks, then redo guitar, add keys and vocals later.
I want to be able to mix the drum levels independently.
To do this would I need at least and 8 channel in/out sound card interface correct?
Ideally i guess i would like a 10 channel card.
I dont really use any midi but I do have an Alesis DM5 and I know our keyboard player is into midi.
Please recommend a good card for this task.
Also i need a good outboard mic pre amp.

Thanks a million

i'm not one to answer your question as to which soundcard to purchase, although M-Audio makes a bigger version of the Delta 44 (4 ins 4 outs) that I have called the Delta 1010 (10 ins 10 outs).

But, i wanted to say that I can recommend you keep the SB installed. You can have multiple soundcards on the same machine, and you might find it useful later to have that option to use a general multimedia card at times. I use a SB Live Platinum and an M-Audio Delta 44. :O) -j

Hey... well, this is kinda strange.... you have an almost IDENTICAL setup to what I do... not quite, but close.

Having said that, I run a Delta 66 OMNIstudio package and I've almost never had any trouble at all with it.... I've had trouble with my 'puter, but not with the card!

Having said that, I'd agree... take a look at the Delta 1010... it's converters are actually a notch up from the delta 44/66, so it should treat you well.

I'am an M-Audio user and I think the Delta 1010 would do an excellent job, but you can also look at the Aadvark Q10. It has excellent reviews and I beleive that with this baby you donĀ“t need a mixer anymore. It's suposed to have a good set of preamps and DSP fx.

Good luck!!

There's also the Echo Layla which I've heard real good things about. 8 ins and outs plus Midi in, etc. Real rich sound, I hear. I want one of those Aardvark Q10's too... :-)
