I came across some literature of this new "Guitar Rig", made by Native Instruments, where it's a whole entire virtual guitar rig "stack" all on the computer. It seems to go beyond the realms of any "amp modeler" I've come across. It offers everything a true guitar rig offers, (even comes with a foot controler and wah pedal) but, does it sound good? And how much does it cost? If anyone has heard of this thing or has any experience with it...GOOD OR BAD...It would be great hearing from you.

Oct 02, 2004 02:46 am Search HRC - there was a post on this very bit of kit not too long ago.
Just search for guitar rig and you'll find it.
Big thread if I mind right.
It looks OK, but is pricey. I tried the demo and it was good, but not any better IMHO than the VAMP, possibly POD (tho I havent used the POD) or Amplitube soundwise to ma ears.
Coco.
Oct 02, 2004 12:04 pm download the demo and try it out. i couldn't get it to sound right as an insert effect but it sounds better than my pod as a standalone. i went from elation to warniess and boredom pretty quickly.

Oct 02, 2004 03:24 pm For that kind of money your better off buying something like a Boss GT6, Digitech GXN300, Pod, VAmp etc.
It sounds nice, but then so do all of the above without using your CPU + all except the GT6 are cheaper. :)

Oct 05, 2004 09:49 pm BJT, olddog puts a good bit in there about CPU usage. IF you are going to run the virtual guitar rack, you definately need a big processor and lots of ram. I own a fully updated and upgraded POD XT and must say I cant be happier. They have now entered a realm I never thought they would when I bought my first POD, and I did indeed love its sound. But the XT has gone into the realms you speak of with the NI guitar rig. You can control everything right from the POD's face or from the PC. And it too has a foot controller that is purchased seperately, but again can control pretty much everything right from the foot control.
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth.
Oct 05, 2004 10:46 pm yeah but i see that guitar rig has some features that are truly to be lusted over. you can set up an unlimited number of amps and cabinets in an array and mix and match types--with different mics and mic placements on each. that's absolutely crazy! one patch can give you the illusion of a bunch of discrete cabs all hooked up at once!

Oct 06, 2004 10:09 pm Well, I'll have to give it a look see. But I am happy with my POD XT and havent even scratched the surface barely yet after the upgrade and additions of more amp models and cabinets and effects.
Oct 06, 2004 11:19 pm i'm glad to hear that, since whatever developments take place in the software field, i'm likely always gonna have a pod nearby. i'm looking forward to getting the XT or whatever the successor is. gotta somehow snag an ipod first.

Oct 07, 2004 02:28 pm I agree it might make for some interesting combo's but in the end it's the guy holding the guitar that really makes a great sound.
I can't count how many times I've been in the music store, some guy will pick up a guitar, plug into a little practice amp and in a minute He's sounding like a million bucks. I could walk over pickup the same guitar and plug in right behind Him and I'd still just sound like Me. LOL

Oct 08, 2004 11:30 am NI Guitar Rig Rocks!!!!!!
I have it and I'am really happy with it.
Warning: If you download the demo, be sure to tweak the sounds to get what you want because the presets arenĀ“t what the plug in deserves.
Oct 09, 2004 01:39 pm the presets are fantastic, though.
sonico, have you noticed a difference in sound quality between stand alone mode and plug-in mode?

Oct 09, 2004 07:45 pm Ah yes, there in lies the secret. Sonico thinx the presets are bunk and forty find them attracitve. It is all in the ears of the listener and how we define our own sounds. Once I mix the POD into a mix, no-onw knows is live or memorex. It is all really a matter of how you are hearing it, the gear, the guitar, the player, and so on.
After all the talk I will surely go give it a try, but with all the plugs I have and the knowledge of how to tweak them and the POD, I doubt I will be spending the money to add guitar rig anytime soon.
Especially now with the POD XT's upgradeabilty I dont see it getting outdated anytime soon.
Oct 09, 2004 09:00 pm the presets werent that good, just less over the top than POD and more functional i thought, and the main thing was that the stereo treatment of them was rich which is always a big thing with me.
