delta 44/mixer question (from a newbie)

I am building a new computer and have thought about getting a M-Audio delta 44 since it seems like a good piece of hardware. I like the idea of 4 channels since I would record some guitar/vocals with friends. So it seems like I would need a direct box and a mic preamp to get everything going (I am pretty new to home recording). Something like the M-Audio AudioBuddy, or 2 of them to make use of the 4 channels. Would a mixer do the same thing? I can see how the mixer would be more useful, but the ones I have seen don't seem to have the direct input for high impedence sources. Or if they do they are on the same channel as the mic inputs, and that doesn't seem too useful for my purposes.

So I guess I am just confused on how to hook up a mixer to a delta 44 and get 4 seperate tracks. Would the mixer have to be 4 bus and/or have 4 direct outs? Can anyone point me in a direction of a good mixer to get for this purpose?

Sorry about the newbie questions... I have been looking over this site all do and couldn't really find any answers to my questions, sorry if this has been asked a million times before.

My way....

...two Behringer Mixers, a MX-602 and an UB-802. This is a very cheap/reliable way to do it. Btw, I have two different models cause I bought them in diferent times.

Hope this might help you.

The quickest way to get a setup to record 4 different tracks is this. Get a soundcard with 4 ins, like the delta 44 (which is excellent), and a mixer with 4 out busses, run each bus to an in on your delta and then you can record up to four individual tracks.
