ok guys - sorry about this - i'm wondering if some kind soul could offer me some assistance with an essay i've gotta write for my music course. it's about technology which is not my strongest subject. Can anyone suggest some errors a recording engineer might make that would result in poor mono compatibility and diminished frequency response when making a digital recording. Cheers - i've found definitions of the technical terms i'm just stuck on how to avoid the problems...

Aug 16, 2004 08:08 pm Yeah, I have a couple hundred 'audio'-examples ! lol So I'll site my error of stepping on frequencies in the mix, or in everyone's terms: bad mixing . I find that after mixing to a sterio field, and then 'checking' it with a mono source has helped me with the eq'ing process quite a bit lately . After checking it, and making the changes in the eq, things sit a little nicer in the mix . Recording instruments with similar frequencies has been the issue for me, and it wasn't until I was able to 'see' the frequency changes I was making on a computer screen, that I was able to make a big difference in my eq'ing techniques . So, I guess I'll say that impropper eq'ing, and overlapping similar frequencies in the mix, is a way to muddy-up a mono-mix real quick . Since you're looking to play the material in mono, mixing it in mono is key, and avoiding the frequency 'abuse' . Hope this may help .
