Jul 31, 2004 11:48 am ... in order to more efficiently use your speakers, like sending lows to the woofer and highs to the tweeter. There are 2 types, Passive and Active Crossovers.
Passives do not require power and are usually in the speaker box and operate at speaker level so it will affect your amplified signal (maybe a little, maybe a lot).
Actives require power and they are usually an external unit that operates at line level before the signal is amplified so it won't munch your amplified signal. These are preffered but it is more expensive.
